My New Gray Dining Room

Why do I fall in love so easy? I'm talking about with decorating? Is it my calling? Or is it because it's just plain fun...and I like CHANGE!

My sister's and I think it's because we were raised in the military and we moved around A LOT! I went to 14 different schools before I was in the 9th grade!

Back to my dining room. I am in love with the new Gray color.  It's a custom mix by Sherwin Williams. They call it Mushroom. This Gray looks different at different times of the day and eve.  I got this from another blogger that said it was the perfect gray. I agree with her but I don't remember who it was.

After painting, I realized that I would have to change the rug from this red rooster rug...
To this Oriental rug that I found on Overstocks.com
I also changed out the chain sock and the shades on my chandelier from this...
To this...
I will show you how I did these monogram shades in another post very soon.

I also realized that I needed new valances and I fell in love with this fabric from Hobby Lobby.
So made these valances.
The buffet used to look like this...

And the picture/art above used to look like this...
Free at a garage sale!
I decoupaged old advertising pages, glazed over that, then added the vinyl saying...after painting the frame.
Before the buffet, the furniture on this side of the room looked like this...
That hutch looked like this when I found it and I painted it with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.
Things just keep changing!
Here are views of the changes side by side...
I was so used to the saturated color of red that didn't realize the space would look more open and even bigger with a lighter color. The red was fun and played well off of the white trim and kitchen cabinets, but this gray is just soothing and I am in love...once again.

  1. Hi Terry,
I just love your dining room. The black check on the pretty script fabric looks so pretty with the checkered plates. I think you have incorporated so many pretty details. My sister put that same fabric in her diningroom. Love all that you've done.

    hugs

  3. Terry, what a beautiful dining room. I love the mushroom gray you painted the walls and your buffet looks fantastic against the light walls. Hope you're enjoying many dinner parties there! Thanks so much for sharing on Silver Pennies Sundays!

  4. Wow...Looks lovely...and I adore your new rug!! Curtains look fabulous and isn't great that you could still use many of the same accent pieces you already had? As for my mirror - I think it is sold already!!

It looks spectacular! Can't wait to see it in person. After painting 2 gray rooms in Amy's house and seeing yours, I am going to have to figure out what I can paint gray. Love it. Gail

  12. Wow it's so pretty. The gray looks wonderful with your black and white accents. The artwork above your buffet, the column, the chain sock...it all looks great with mushroom.

To me, it seems you did this all very quickly. I have to stew on things so long it makes me crazy and I feel that nothing is getting done! Give me some advice - how do you decide on and find the things for your walls? That's the hardest part to me. I don't like mass produced looking things and so otherwise I'm always just stuck.
