It's a Girl!

It seems that

I have been buried

this winter with

living and breathing

Baby Girl stuff!

You see, my daughter is having our first granddaughter in April...
And I have been working and having fun, making and planning the cutest and pinkest baby shower!
I bought these invitations at Hobby Lobby. They already had the ribbon and "It's a Girl" on them, so all I had to do was design and print the information on the blank invitation.
These were really announcements, but I knew they would work perfectly for invitations. I used a rubber stamp for the pink footprint, the rest was done on my computer and printer.

That is all you get to see now about the shower. I will do a post on the decor after the March 21 shower date. You won't want to miss how charmingly cute it will be!

As grandparents, we were happy to purchase this crib at Babies-R-Us (picked out by our daughter)...
And after our daughter selected the fabric she wanted, I have been sewing up a storm! Do you want to see? It's not your typical baby girl bedding...(Mommy and Daddy-to-be wanted to limit the pink)

This is the crib skirt. I used all four fabrics on this piece. Initially, after looking at the crib in the Babies-R-Us picture above, I noticed that the crib skirt does not show well. I was just going to do a simple solid, however after thinking that this will become a toddler bed with the front removed, I decided to trick it out since it will eventually show in all it's glory.
Daughter Lisa fell in love first with this teally-green and cream floral fabric (all purchased at JoAnns). So it became the bumper pad. The peach accent fabric became the piping and bow ties for the crib.

Here you can see it paired with the crib skirt...(the sun coming in the room made the bumper pad look a different color than what you see at the bottom of the skirt, but it's all the same)
I made the front and back center ties short and the corner ties long because of how the molding on the crib is. I have extra ties once it gets put on the bed.
This floral fabric above is in the box pleat of the crib skirt, and I also made two fitted sheets for the mattress.
Since I also loved having flat sheets on a toddler bed and they can't be found, I made her two flat sheets out of the peach accent fabric.
After all was done, I literally had small scraps left. I did a really good job guessing the amount of material I needed to make all the bedding. And the nursery has one window, so with Lisa's blessing, I made a simple valance using all the pieces of fabric combinations sewn onto the solid.

One more thing...

When I had Lisa 24 years ago, I also made all her bedding and my sister bought a lamp to go in her nursery. I bought the matching picture frame and both are music boxes as well.

I was raised in the Air Force and moved a lot, so I am accustomed to not keeping much and I don't get attached to many items, so it's a big thing that I saved these all those years and through five moves in two states!
I made a new lamp shade with the peach fabric and printed a special message to her for the frame...
All these will be given to her at the shower and she will be able to nest for the last month of her pregnancy!

  6. My nephew Craig and his sweetheart Jasmine are expecting a boy in March and their shower is also this Saturday in TN. My husband and I are heading their way Friday from Michigan when the ice storm lets up. Can't wait to see the nursery. Jasmine is an artist and is doing a guitar theme nursery with famous guitarist and their guitars on one of the walls. Blues and greys. I have had a fun time making a few things for that nursery also. Congratulations on being a grandmother. We have six grandsons ages 19 to 3 and there is nothing under the sun as great.
