Making a Fireplace MoRe Impressive!

At times, some things are worth repeating! As it goes with my fireplace. Originally it looked like this...

This photo was taken in 2012. I remember the first time I stepped into this home when it was new and saw this fireplace...it is HUGE. I can stand under the mantel with my 5 foot height. The ceilings are 10 foot and I was immediately impressed.

However, I have always thought that it left the upper wall a bit too short looking. I decided to remedy that back in the winter of 2013.
I started painting the wall above the mantel with the same semi-gloss paint that was on the mantel. I soon found the error of my ways...I ran to the computer and looked at Houzz.com to see if my instincts were correct. Yep, I should have measured in and the white paint should only be even with the part that is under the mantel, not the edge of the mantel.
You can see here in this picture that I had fixed the mistake by visually moving in the white and repainting my mistake with wall color paint. That paint was still wet in the picture but dried and now you can't tell I made that mistake. By the way, I have be asked countless times what my living room wall color is. It's called Heath by Sherwin Williams. Part of the day it looks green and then goes to khaki as the evening comes. I love how easy this color is to live with and how good anything looks against it.
Then my sweet hubby, who is really good making mitered corners, put up the trim I wanted. I first edged the sides where the white paint met the wall paint with a decorative piece of flat trim (below)...
So now you see how easy it is to make a fireplace look more impressive!
