Master Bedroom Tour

The master bedroom in this home is the first bedroom of four upstairs. I painted the walls by mixing all kinds of left-over paint along with a $1 gallon Sherwin Williams miss-tint paint. People ask me all the time what the color is and I just don't know...custom green I guess! My young and cute handy dandy handyman and I put in the new hand scraped hardwood elm flooring last summer.
WARNING, this post could get lengthy because I will tell you a bit about everything made in this room.

First, the shutter headboard. I purchased these shutters at auction. I had my young and cute handy dandy handyman make a headboard out of them. Knowing it was going to be large, I asked him to attach two shutters together, add a separating board at the base to screw the bed frame into and add a removable crown molding on top. This headboard comes apart in three pieces for moving. This is what he brought me back after taking the shutters home to work on the project. I just painted the crown and bottom board to match the shutters. The header above the headboard is detailed in this past post.

I made the pillows on the bed and the small monogramed pillow was made using a letter stencil with acrylic paint and fabric medium mixed.

I also made the curtains, though they were very easy. I purchased lace that was a green color with white leaf design. I just hemmed the top and bottom, added fringe and hung using curtain clips and rings.

The night stand was a $3 garage sale find that looked like this (below).
I sanded and painted it white with some black accents. The top I painted to look like black marble (below).

I designed and printed off this found saying, then just framed it.
Double crown molding tray ceiling. I painted the ceiling in two colors of tan then
added a glaze to blend.
The ceilings (above) are a large tray with double crown molding. On the other side of the bed, is a reproduction pie crust table. The chandelier is a $2 garage sale find. I just wired it into a plug and covered the chain with a green cord cover.
Fabric shades were purchased.

The vanity was given to me by a friend that I helped with a bunch of decorating. She had purchased it at a garage sale and painted it a soft pink. I painted it white then added the painted details.

Vanity top has garage sale finds on top.
The vanity chair looked like this from the thrift store where I purchased it (below).

I painted it white then added the roses (below), and reupholstered it.
This was taken before I added the double black and white welting around the fringe. This tied it in with the black and white check I painted on the vanity.

The MacKenzie Childs inspired chair and tuffet are talked about in this post. However, I haven't talked about the fireplace. We found the old metal fireplace surround at a local antique store. I then found the existing fireplace mantel at a garage sale. Hubby had to do some alterations because the hole was too large for the metal surround. We added trim to cover the area and I painted it white. Hubby also made me a wooden box that I painted to look like brick. Then I just purchased three 18 inch tiles to lay on the floor, set the fireplace on top and added a candle stand inside.
Took this picture as I was priming the piece.

The oak dresser was purchased at a thrift store and was painted yellow. I stripped it down to the oak. The dress form with my wedding dress is detailed in this past post. The rest is just wall 'stuff' that I will talk about in captions under the pictures.
Purse collection hanging from glass knobs. Rose oil painting from antique store. Lamp and metal scroll above picture from Hobby Lobby. Hand and necklace holder from TJ Maxx.
Vintage spoon rack  I painted white and use to hang a hankie collection.

T and M from Hobby Lobby. Collection of real early 1900's postcards of women.

I added the roses to the frame and painted it white.

Birdcage and framed lace glove from garage sales. Metal chandelier from Hobby Lobby.

Garage sale plates.
Old frame painted white from garage sale. I added three ribbon covered wires to the back and hung my grandmother's collection of hankies.
This room is definitely not large by today's standards especially after the new king mattress came two weeks ago! But it functions well for sleeping, ironing while watching TV mounted above the faux fireplace...it swivels around, and I love all the windows! Terry
