Hubby and I found this coffee table at a garage sale for $5. We knew that we could restore it into something a bit less shabby. I know, I know, some of you like this much distressing, but this was a bit much for me. So while hubby fixed the top, I sanded down the legs then the top. I painted it in tones of brown and black and added a checkerboard in the center. Yes, we actually play checkers on it! Here is the final look as it sits in our basement media room.

I actually found the perfect complement to this table...red and black wooden checkers for a $1 at an antique mall in Wichita, Kansas while visiting relatives. So total tally is $6 for the whole project. Terry

Terry, I *so* need to go shopping with you! I love what you did with the table. I agree: I like distressed, but that might be a bit too much for me, even. Super job!

ReplyDeleteHi Terry,
ReplyDeleteI love that table. Nice job. Amazing how something can be transformed into something so unique. I redid a $5.00 coffee table recently, too. Take a peek! http://joyjunkandjuxtaposition.blogspot.com/2011/01/remember-this-ugly-thing.html
This is gorgeous! I would have painted it the same in your room. It would look good black in my room too. Really neat makeover.

What a steal @ $5! I love the distressed look, also, but I agree some pieces are a bit much. We are birds of a feather because I painted a table for my kids with a checkerboard. Love how this turned out! Looks great in your space!
ReplyDeleteBest of the day to you!
