Mirror Turned Chalkboard

I adore the chalkboards out there in blog-land! I especially love seeing the ones that are chalkboard paint on pantry doors. I however can not do this because my doors have very small 'panels' instead of one large panel.  Next best thing...and maybe even better because it's not permanent is what I did.
I purchased this antique gold framed mirror at my local antique mall for $20.

I painted the frame, then used glaze it to bring out the details. (You can click on the pictures to enlarge for seeing these details) While my young and cute handy dandy handyman was here on Monday, I asked him to cut me a board that would fit in this frame.  I then used several layers of chalkboard paint and here is the final result.
Now, when these chalkboards go out of vogue, I can reinstall the antique mirror and use it in another location. Terry

  7. That is gorgeous. My pantry door also has very thin panels, I never thought of turning a mirror into a chalkboard. Now to find a fabulous frame like the one you scored. I love it.

  11. I wanted to do this with a mirror I found a few weeks ago, but my husband was convined it wouldn't work. Clearly, he was mistaken! I'm totally showing this to him. :-)
