Ball & Claw

Lately I have been infatuated with
Annie Sloan's Old White and French Linen Chalk Paint.

I adore the combination of these two colors...

So old world, so classic, so today!

This chair that I picked up last summer, at a garage sale, was sitting around in the hobby garage just waiting for it's makeover.
Someone had painted it blue and recovered the seat but I could tell that had been ages ago. It's heavy, it's sturdy and the seat is made of an oak frame with burlap webbing so I knew it was quality and old.

I started with doing the two tone effect with the Annie Sloan Old White and French Linen.
It was easy since the chair was already blue. With a bit of distressing, I allowed some of the old blue to show through.

Then to decide on the seat. I really had my heart set on using an old feed sack that has an eagle on it, but it was stained and there is something weird to me about doing a nice upholstery job with stained fabric...even though it is the look.

I decided to help camouflage the stains, I used coffee and tea to stain the whole piece first.

I think it's perfect for the look I was going for on this chair. After all it has an eagle in keeping with the ball & claw feet on this chair.
I even made cording to go around the seat for a more professional finished look.

So, are you ready to see the whole chair?
And now, here it is in it's new home...as a companion to my straight from the trash spinet desk!
 The before and after!

This is where I could kick myself for not buying it's mate. Yes there were two!

  4. I have a question about the cording. How did you attach it? Did you sew it to the fabric, glue it??

  8. Your chair turned out great. Was it your first instinct to purchase the second chair? If it was - you should always follow it. I tend to regret not making the purchase. Never regret buying more. :)
