Christmas In The Livingroom

This year I realized something...

 I have been OVER-DOING Christmas!

Way to much Christmas decor
Crammed in ALL areas to a claustrophobic proportion.
It looked like someone had thrown-up Christmas!
I decided, it had to stop!
So from now on
I am going to do a lighter touch
Of Christmas decor in my home.
I asked myself, WHY?
Why am I doing so much Christmas decorating?
Why am I willing to store tons of Christmas decor for 11 months out of a year?
Why?
I'm very happy with this decision! And have invited friends over to pick though my unused Christmas Decor for FREE! Take it away...Please!

  3. Terry, as much as you love to decorate, I bet you'll get rid of stuff and then get more...or make more. :) Your home is beautiful. Love the basket of gifts at the fireplace. I'll copy that idea if you don't mind.

  4. I love your decorations. I hear ya on letting the friends come over and pick thru . I did that when I sold my house. I thought this year. LESS was MORE sort of thing. I love it all though and wish you and your beautiful family a blessed holiday season . .. HUGS Sherry @ The Rusty Pearl

  6. I think your simplified Christmas decor is lovely, Terry! I AM one of those who goes "overboard," but almost everything I have is a "memory" that I truly treasure and want to see on display, even for just a month.

  8. I think your holiday touches are Perfect. I too wish to join this simplified club.. 3 weeks ago I gave away 11 huge containers of holiday decor and when this one is done I know there will be several other containers on their way OUT. enough is enough:) I am so proud of you and happy for you ..

  9. I did the exact same thing, girl! And it felt amazing! We moved last Christmas, so it started there, hauling plastic tub after tub, after tub down from the attic, it was brutal…….just ask my husband. Yikes! But, also my home now is more shabby chic, white and some dark wood and or black accents and I feel it doesn't take as much for it to feel festive. As women, I believe we go through decorating changes, as well as the less fun ones! Your decorating posts are always awesome, welcome to the less is more club!

    Have a blessed Christmas!

  10. What a spectacular idea! Now to convince my adult children that how I decorate my house for Christmas is none of their business. Your home looks wonderful!!!

  13. Over the last two years, I have been thinning out my Christmas decor. That's not to say that I still don't have a lot, but I had things I put out, just because I felt like I had to use it ALL. What a great idea to have a giveaway for your friends!
    Happy Holidays!

  18. Terry, I keep things fairly simple too. That said, I do have a lot of Christmas decorations. I will put up the tree first this year and then see what my energy and motivation is for adding other touches. My mantel is always simple with a few greens and our stockings. Thanks for sharing your lovely home in its Christmas decor.

  19. We did the same thing this year! We even gave away our big artificial tree. For the last 3 years we've gotten fresh trees and if at some point we want artificial again I have a small 4 foot or we can purchase a nice 6 foot. All outside decorations are gone...given to the kids. Perhaps we'll get a nice big Nutcracker to sit outside and then again maybe not...I kept my snowman collection, Santa collection, little town collection and tree ornaments (with lights, beads and ribbon) that I love...all else went to the kiddos. Very freeing!

  21. Your home looks lovely as always. I'm not sure if it's unanimous, but the thinning out Christmas decor process comes about too with age, not having the energy, stamina to do what we've done in our younger years, nothing to do with not liking "overdone". It's epecially true this Season as Thanksgiving was so, so close. What are your thoughts?

  22. Nice post. Overdoing on Christmas decorations may only produce clutter in the room. Thanks for sharing.
