German verb putzen, which means "to clean" or "to decorate." Mass-produced cardboard Christmas villages became popular in the US during the early and mid-20th century, while porcelain versions became popular in the later part of the century.
These two above, I hand cut and made...a lot of work, but then I won a Silhouette and found them on their site...
Now my machine cuts them out and I get all the fun of glittering them up!
I fell in love with these sweet paper and glitter houses.
Maybe they bring me back to my childhood...
The blue house in the upper right corner was a gift that came from TJ Maxx. It lights up too!
They make me smile!

Adorable. My grandma always said putzen.....like when the grands were playing and not doing what she thought they should do! Nah, putzen avround all vhe time! (add german accent!)
ReplyDeleteI have some too, and just love them. Out for winter mantel (at least until Valentine's)
ReplyDeleteHello, putzen means actually only to clean/cleaning, it does not mean to decorate at all. :) Sorry, couldn't help it. Native speaker here. :)
ReplyDeleteVery Nice!
ReplyDeleteSo very pretty, Terry! Right after Christmas, I was inspired to make a few of these as well. They'll be ready for next year! Hugs, Catherine
ReplyDeleteI've heard of putzen around? I love your house displays so true to the season. Who cares what it means sounds so cute!
ReplyDeleteI love your Putz houses! I purchased some from Laura @Decore to Adore's Etsy shop and I may copy your coffee table vignette with them! Very cute!
ReplyDeleteI had never even heard of putz houses until earlier this year, I am smitten, they are so adorable!

So gorgeous. They look lovely. It helps to the right equipment otherwise lots of patience needed to cut out all the details. ;)
