Wainscoting To The Rescue!

Hand prints.....
            Scuff marks....
What seems like miles of hallways...
                                                                 AND Four young kids...

The only answer was wainscoting in the form of Board and Batten. I realize that this friends home was built and is owned by a high end custom home builder, but this is something that anyone can do with a few skills and if not, easily hired done.
In this three story home, the most used floor is the main floor. Therefore almost every wall was done in this Board and Batten. It not only makes the walls scrubble, but it adds that much more character to an already amazing home.
What I am showing you is the height levels that changed per room and how it all works so well.
What nagged me about this home, was the lack of enough character in the very large rooms. Am I ever pleased with a space? Yes, it was beautiful, but I kept wanting more. After all, I am there a lot. I work for them doing the accounting for their business. Also...
Playing with the kids and watching them grow.
Here is one little ornery boy as I was taking the pictures today!

And helping with the decorating. It's all been a joy and this just makes clean-up easier because not only was Batten put up, but the Boards behind the Batten are a thin plywood to also protect the sheetrock walls.

If you didn't need the protection on the sheetrock, you can just install the Batten and paint the Batten and walls beside it with semi-gloss paint. It would give the same look.
Notice the breakfast room wainscoting was raised to about 6 1/2 foot high with the 9 foot ceilings.
You can see in the before and after pictures the difference it gives a room.
A close-up of the beauty of these walls.

  9. The board and batten looks fabulous, I now have to convince my other half to let me do this in my hallway. I recently started making some changes to my hall and in fact my whole house, to add more of a Hamptons look and this would be perfect. I have just revealed, or rather put update photos of my bedroom which is Hamptons style and in fact, it would be perfect to use the board and battens in my ensuite too.
