Front Porch Changes

We just had our roof re-shingled. Plus the gutter guys are coming next week, so changes are happening. My young and cute, handy dandy handyman can really do ANYTHING! He and his crew tore the old off and put the new shingles on. As usual, I had more on my list for him to do...

He added a sun tunnel that I already did a blog post about HERE.
This is my porch. The column base on the right, which is north, had some rot. The snow in the winter piles up there and must have caused it...other than it is real wood and is 18 years old. I wanted him to fix the base, but it had too much damage. So...
I had him cut off the railing and add new columns. When he did this, it opened up the narrow front part of the porch and I just loved the openness.
See how cramped and closed in it was? And I had just enough of the red outdoor fabric left to make another pillow for these...

My Hy-Vee manager son-in-law gave me a good deal on these two white wood rockers. I love sitting out there now not feeling hemmed in, this rather narrow space, by railing. I called my builder friend and asked him porch railing building code. He said 24 inch high porch or more needs railing. My porch is only 12 inches off the ground, therefore for now, we are not going to add new railing.
I got our combined initials for the front door too.
Next up, the tree that blocks the beautiful brick and stone work of the fireplace chimney is going to be coming down.
It's a cool tree but close by is...
A row of pine trees that divide our property from the neighbors. They have gotten very tall and so this tree is no longer needed. (Picture taken from the back, looking north towards pine trees and you can see the top of the chimney.)

Have a safe and Happy 4th of July!
