My NEW Old Bridge Arm Lamp!

Before
Last fall Hubby and I went to a Fabulous Flea Market in Bloomington, IL, and I picked up an old bridge arm lamp that I fell in love with. I did a post on this trip HERE, however this is the lamp in the shape that I purchased it.

I cleaned it up, saw some rust on the straight  part of the pipe, so I only painted those two areas brown. I loved the patina on the rest of the lamp, so I left it.

Notice the wire below the ornate bridge arm to the bulb area. When I rewired that, I chose to thread the wire in and out through the scrolls to help hide the wire.

Here it is now, all cleaned up and looking sweet, in all it's detail...

After
The wiring is more hidden than it was before!

This is the original paint and patina of the base!
I used an Edison Filament bulb and a dimmer to show off the uniqueness of not only the cool bulb but the bridge arm. I really think the juxtaposition of the ornateness of the lamp against the industrial nature of a naked filament bulb is working for me.
For now, I chose to leave off the funky wire 'shade'. I thought about hanging crystals from it, but decided to not use it. So what do you think?

  5. That's a great idea for when you find one without the pretty shade & hiding the cord wire is a necessity.

  10. What a Beautiful Lamp and transformation! I Love these types of Lamps... I just purchased a Vintage Floor Lamp with Victorian Style Shade... they just don't make 'em like that anymore.

  11. I rewired my great aunt's bridge lamp with success, My first try! My lamp has a threaded socket that accomodates a screw on shade. I found a new fresh one on line by searching Lamps Plus. It works great. I use this in my study by the piano.

  13. My mother in Phoenix has one just like that in her sunroom. I said I wasn't interested in it because I didn't have any idea of how to fit it with a lampshade. I am calling her tonight to tell her to hold on to it for me! What a beautiful floor lamp with all that detailed accented! How did you do it?
