I recently had a birthday (Sept. 3) and the best part was not the gifts but what my hubby said to me...
"Hon, I'm all yours today!"
I knew that meant what whatever I wanted him to do, he would. And he knew that I had some projects in mind. You see, I am afraid of the table saw and needed him to cut some wood for me. I also wanted to beef up a fireplace mantel. So let's start with that!
We had built this faux mantel many years ago out of various scraps of wood. Then we found an antique metal fireplace face and some antique bricks with rounded corners for the hearth.
Notice under the mantel, it's a bit bland...Here you can see it better...a bit lackluster don't you think?
We had a couple of vintage corbels in our collection that would work perfectly for my idea so hubby went to work...
When he was done, I had to give it another coat of paint and here is what it looks like now...
He also beefed up the base with a bit of trim...
He did some other woodworking for me too, but I will save that for a later post. On to the presents!
I love what I got, but of course, I picked them out.
A vintage looking hand sign advertising, purchased from Antique Farmhouse...
Hubby picked the spot in the kitchen where a rooster hook once was...And it works for me there.
And a wire shade cover for my antique bridge arm lamp. I got this from Decor Steals.

He did a great job! It all looks fabulous. What a lucky birthday girl!
ReplyDeleteSaw your link on My 1929 Charmer. :)
I love it. This is exactly what I wanted my hubby to do with our fireplace. It's just a permastone fireplace without a mantel. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThe corbels are awesome Terry!
ReplyDeleteTerry, Happy Belated Birthday! What a sweet hubby to do these things for you! The corbels are a wonderful addition; and your hand sign is adorable! I'd say you had a great birthday!
ReplyDeleteWOW! I love the corbels on your mantel. They look fantastic!
ReplyDeleteHappy Belated Birthday!
ReplyDeleteEverything looks great...my kind of birthday!
Happy belated birthday - love the "hand" sign...and your mantle looks fabulous (well done, hubby!!)
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday, don't you wish they came more often so our hubs would be busier! Love the corbels you added to the fireplace, really beefs it up, and the trim on the button. You got some really great gifts, love them all. Thanks for sharing your inspiration with Sunday’s Best – you helped make the party a success!
ReplyDeleteHappy Belated Bithday - that faux fireplace is one of the most realistic one's out there - it's just brilliant!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Suzan
The mantel turned out great! Just found you through Cowgirl Up and am your newest follower :)
ReplyDeleteSusan
I just discovered your blog. Oh. My. Goodness! Your ideas are fabulous! I am so inspired. The mantel is gorgeous and I want to try making the wire lampshade. Can't wait for a little extra time later this evening so I can look around and see what other fabulous ideas you are sharing. (By the way, pretty nice gift from Hubby!)
ReplyDeleteThe corbels are beautiful and make quite an impact on the mantel. That's my kind of b-day gift too. Just having hour husband on board for a whole day of projects. Thanks for sharing at DIYbyDesign.
