Double Frame Wall Art

Ever wonder what to do for inexpensive wall art? If you are a savvy shopper at thrift stores or garage sales, you will come across frames at very low prices.  Here's a peek at what this post is all about.
Do you want to know how I created this? Okay...here's what I did.
First, gather your two frames. In my case, I had a black 12 x 12 frame that I purchased on clearance at Hobby Lobby for pennies on the dollar. I picked up a pretty 4 x 6 frame for $1 at our local thrift store. It was gold and I spray painted it an heirloom white.

I then got a sheet of scrapbooking paper. I used a punch to put the decoration on the black paper that was layered across the center of the 12 x 12 piece of paper.  This was all glued to a piece of cardboard and placed in the larger frame.
Now it was time to decide what I wanted in the smaller frame. I decided that I would design a name/monogram on the computer. After creating it and printing it off, I framed it in the smaller frame. I used Command Velcro-like picture hanging system. I even got it on clearance for only $1.97.

The beauty of this system is that this smaller frame can be pulled off, the picture changed out, then re-attached by matching up the Velcro-like strips and pushing firmly. (By the way, this is the system that I used to attach an old vintage frame on top of my guest bathroom mirror.) You can see that post HERE.

It looked like this before I attached it to the middle of the larger frame.

Almost done! Just center on the framed paper and press firmly. I didn't have a piece of glass for the larger frame, but it would have worked if I did attach it to glass as well as this paper.

So now, the question is where to hang it! I have just made personalized, inexpensive, almost instant art for under $10! Isn't that Great!

Use your creativity. Add ribbon and other embellishments. This would be a good project for burlap. A family picture would be fun too. Match it to your decor. It takes a small picture and makes it more impressive because it comes out much larger and more interesting than just a framed picture.

From Table To Clockface!

Have you ever had something that just wasn’t working in your home? A piece of cheap furniture is what I am referring to. You know those cheap, screw-in, three legged tables that are not as stablethreeleggedtable2 as you want them to be.

I found one for $2 at a flea market. I thought that I really got a deal and that I could use it for a display I was asked to do at church. Then I used it at home and set a Christmas tree on during the holidays but one of the legs just wanted to give way. It was just not a good functioning piece of furniture.

Yes, I could have sweet talked hubby into fixing it. And I could have painted it a fun color like these.

Aren’t they cute?

Then I had a light-bulb moment!

lightbulb

What about making a clock face out of it for my exercise room. I have a clock theme going on in there, so why not? I got the paints out and did my thing. What do you think?

Newly painted clockface with vintage folkart Chinese Checkerboard that I painted.

Here are some various other clock faces going on in this room.

So what do gameboards and clockfaces have in common? I don't know, I just like them and they are displayed in my exercise room.

Birdcages

Oh what fun it is to decorate with birdcages this time of year...

Come fly away with me...
When did birds get so popular?
And do crystals ever go out of style?
Also, roses, who doesn't love roses. So I painted these on this birdhouse!
Ahhhh, I love birdcages! Don't you?

Chair Transformation

After
This is a story about two lonely chairs in need of a beauty make-over.

I spotted two of these chairs at a thrift store. Right there and then I knew that I could make these chairs look beautiful...again.

Oh nooooooooooooooo,

they didn't look like this!

They looked like...

This (BEFORE)
Before
Ok, so you think, "hey, these are not all that bad!" But up close, they were dirty but had great a great bone structure.

At the time, we had transformed our formal dining room into a study and I thought that these would be perfect for in there.

I took them all apart after purchasing two different (but coordinating) kinds of upholstery fabric.  And I upholstered them complete with lumbar pillows.
One before and one after. I added more foam to the seat for added comfort.
The arms and legs didn't look this red in real life. I think the camera added depth of color and made them look more red than they actually were. But I took a picture and emailed them to my sister. She is really good to bounce off ideas from. I should have done this before because she loved the upholstery but hated the color of the arms and legs. The more I looked at these, I knew she was right, so I did what I don't recommend that you do, I painted the legs and arms AFTER I upholstered the chairs. Very tricky to do especially with oil base paint that I used.
After upholstery and painting black
Lumbar pillow with piping, pin tucks and brush fringe.
Coordinating material was used on the piping and back of the chairs
Here they are in the study and you can see that post here.
As seen in our study
I made a valance for that room out of the left-over material. And painted the finials on the rods.
Valance I made using left-over fabric from chairs.
Then I sold one of them to my good friend and it looks great in her living room and you can see the post I did of her living room here.
It's been amazing to see how good these chairs look in different rooms and different houses.

Another MacKenzie Childs Inspiration Piece!

Yes, I painted another MacKenzie Childs inspiration piece today. When we were in Kansas last week, we also went to some antique and thrift stores...how could I not? Anyway I found an aluminum cake cover with a glass tray for only $3. I couldn't pass it up and knew that I could do something fun with it. Asked many times how I paint this way, I free hand everything and make it up as I go along. If I am painting something inspired by the MacKenzie Childs designs, I open their catalogs before hand to get inspiration...then just start painting. It just flows out of me, a true God given talent since I am self taught. The varnish is not even completely dry on this piece yet, but here it is.
My newly painted cake cover with my hand painted teapot and a TJ Maxx plate.
Before
The varnish is not even dry before posting this picture!
Cake Cover with Glass Platter that came with it.

UPDATE: This cake cover was sold on ebay.

Sweet Tea Decor!

Using vintage silver sugar bowls, silver spoons, hand made vintage book page rosettes and numbered tags, I made these two adorable Sweet Tea Decorations! I am listing one for sale on my sidebar, the other one, I am keeping for myself. If you are interested, just email me and I can give you more information.
Sale, $22 + shipping

See the adorable little key?
I've got to keep this one...Why? Because after making the paper flower, and attaching it as I was putting it together, I noticed the word "Teresa" at the top of the flower.  Look closely above and you will see it. I go by Terry since I prefer it over my birth name...Theresa! Don't you just love kismet?

kis·metkiz-mit, -met, kis-]

–noun
fate; destiny.
This one I am keeping
Oh so cute and sweet vintage. This would make such a wonderful gift for a vintage lover, and tea drinker.
