Birthday Honey-Do's

I recently had a birthday (Sept. 3) and the best part was not the gifts but what my hubby said to me...

"Hon, I'm all yours today!"

I knew that meant what whatever I wanted him to do, he would. And he knew that I had some projects in mind. You see, I am afraid of the table saw and needed him to cut some wood for me. I also wanted to beef up a fireplace mantel. So let's start with that!

We had built this faux mantel many years ago out of various scraps of wood. Then we found an antique metal fireplace face and some antique bricks with rounded corners for the hearth.

Notice under the mantel, it's a bit bland...Here you can see it better...a bit lackluster don't you think?

We had a couple of vintage corbels in our collection that would work perfectly for my idea so hubby went to work...
Here he is putting liquid nails on the back of a corbel.
When he was done, I had to give it another coat of paint and here is what it looks like now...
He also beefed up the base with a bit of trim...
He did some other woodworking for me too, but I will save that for a later post. On to the presents!
I love what I got, but of course, I picked them out.
A vintage looking hand sign advertising, purchased from Antique Farmhouse...
Hubby picked the spot in the kitchen where a rooster hook once was...And it works for me there.
And a wire shade cover for my antique bridge arm lamp. I got this from Decor Steals.

  3. I love it. This is exactly what I wanted my hubby to do with our fireplace. It's just a permastone fireplace without a mantel. Beautiful.
