Back Yard Gardens 2013!

I thought you might like to take a stroll through my yard with me. This has been a good weather year for plants and mine are flourishing. You will understand why we love being at home, puttering in the gardens and happy as can be!

All area beds and burms are lined with stone. I just spray round up once a year in Spring in front of the stones to keep the grass at bay and there is little weedeating needed.

I showed you my front yard gardens HERE, so now it's time for the back yard!  Imagine, just 10 years ago, none of this landscaping that we did was here!

Here, a bowling ball that I painted to look like a ladybug.

These are shoes that I got for 50¢ at a garage sale and planted them with Hens and Chicks...
My Grandma had done this and it reminded me of her. Now one of the Hens is blooming...

The bridge that I made over our dry creek bed...

Above the dry creek bed runs behind the new hobby garage and ends at our lot line. We just have a half acre lot.

See this pillar? On top is a weather vane...
What is hard to see, is the hummingbird you can always find sitting on it taking a rest. Focus on the 'N'...
My famous watermelon painted propane tank. And our humble little garden...tomatoes, zucchini, basil, and cucumbers. We buy the rest at the farmer's market.

I love the sound of bubbling water from the fountain that I made. If you want to learn how I made this fountain, click HERE. The rock wall, like the one in front, are the original farmhouse foundation stone from across the street.

These brick columns are throughout the yard. They are just dry stacked using 4 brick per row and topped with a square stepping stone. Great for lifting up pots or placing a statue on...And they are not permanent!

My son made me this Sundial that really works. It's placed on another dry-stack brick column.

The most popular post that I have written was a tutorial on these China Garden Flowers HERE. Pictured are when I made them last June and then how they have weather aged but are still holding up.

I will leave you with this soothing video.

  9. Terry,
Your yards are just gorgeous! Love all the features. I'm storing the idea of your dry stacked brick columns. You gave me a plan for some leftover bricks we have at the lakehouse.

  15. Oh how beautiful! I truly appreciate how much time and effort has gone into creating such a wonderful backyard and fairy-tale like surroundings. How lovely it must be to come home after a long hard day and set yourself down on the deck and just look around at all you have wrought over the past 10 years. There is just something special about laboring through sweat and bug bites and dirt to create a unique garden/yard for one' self. We all need that so much in this crazy mad world we live in today. Kudos! Can I hire you to do mine???
