New Drapes in the Study!

For me, it feels decadent to have store bought curtains...
I have been sewing since I was 8 years old, so that's 47 years! I have learned so many things about how to sew properly and beautifully. And I have custom window treatments throughout my home in every room.

An example is the valances in the study...Understand it's hard to get a good picture when I am shooting a window!
I loved this fabric. And it's a heavy upholstery weight combo.

But I was ready for a change. Something more streamlined and lighter. I found it at Bed, Bath and Beyond. They are gauzy and more like a burlap in texture. I DIDN'T HAVE TO MAKE THEM MYSELF! This feels like a vacation to me!
This trio of windows has a thermal pull down honeycomb shade you can barely see at the top. I will get much needed privacy and insulation from the winter with it, so I don't need to worry about the drapes giving privacy or close.

Got any ideas of what to do with the extremely nice valance I no longer use?

  1. Can it be used in an unconventional way, maybe over a book case? And I do love the gauzy burlap! It lets a lot of light in!

  2. Can you turn your valance into a runner, or placemats? Just a thought. Gorgeous fabric! Love your new curtains too! Beautiful as always!

  5. I think I bought my insulated honeycomb Levolor shades at JCPenneys when they have a huge sale....I go in, pick them out of a book, order and they are shipped to my home. I install them myself. Hope that helps. You can always get some at Lowes and online. Just measure your window well.

  6. You can sell them.....to me! Lol I think they are gorgeous. Maybe use them in another part of the house, or just put away for when you want a different look. I rotate my window valances every other month or so. Just for a change. That is actually this week's to do. :)

  8. Hi Terry! I like your new curtains. I'm like you, I don't think I have any curtains in my entire house that I didn't make or at least embellish a bit. Your room is pretty too.
    Be a sweetie,
