Stairwell Reveal

I FINALLY did it!

Can you tell what it is?

I am generally not a procrastinator, but I certainly was dragging my feet on...

 painting the railing.

It had an oak rail, newel posts and partial oak tread.

However, we put in beautiful walnut flooring in the two opposing rooms, the living room and the study...
This hardwood flooring did not coordinate well with the oak railing.  It was all done in stages. My young-and-cute-handy-dandy-handyman came a year ago and installed wainscoting in the stairwell...
Trent Mountain
Knowing that we were eventually going to get new carpet and pad, I waited until that was eminent. That day was a few weeks away, so Hubby pulled up the stair carpeting so that I could paint the treads that had partial oak...
Here the rail and newel posts are painted black but I was trying to make the decision on what color to paint the oak stair treads...

I decided on white because I knew that black would show every speck of dust and I would be constantly dusting it.
It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be and yes, I can kick myself for not doing it sooner!
Here it is all done! You can see the hand-painted stencil scallop that I did on the upper walls years ago.

With the new carpet and marshmallow-feeling pad, it also caused some furniture to be moved around in different locations!
I'll show you that in the next post.

  4. Wow that's all impressive! Each detail makes a difference doesn't it! The wainscoting looks fabulous. I like the black hand rail and I agree the white on the steps was a good choice. Black would have driven you nuts! Love the stenciling you did way up on the wall there!
