Give me more Light!

My sewing room is an itty-bitty room
that is under the stairs in the basement
                                                                              and I just love it!

I have a built in wall unit that keeps me organized
and I built a doll house, sans the inside, to cover my sewing machine when not in use!
Under the curtain is storage for acrylic paints, scrapbooking and fabric.
On the other side of the room is more storage and a drop-leaf table that is great for a large working surface.
You can't really tell here, however we are a short couple. I am 5 foot tall and my hubby is 5 foot 4 inches. Do you know what that means? Other than we are perfect for each other, I have to hem every piece of clothing that we buy! Sometimes I think my hubby married me because I can sew!

Also, I am aging! I am going to be 56 this year! These pictures were taken at my son's recent wedding. So, a long story short (no pun intended), as my eyes are starting to get worse, I have notice that I need more light.
As luck would have it, I had the opportunity to work with a company called Lamps.com

They asked me to choose a light and review it.
                                                                                               Simple as that!

 The reason I chose this Adesso-Spotlight Floor Lamp is for several reasons;

1) I loved the style and look of this lamp.
2) I wanted it to be a floor lamp to keep my work space clear of extra clutter.
3) I liked that it is adjustable for various heights.
4) If I were paying for it, at $114, I thought it was a reasonable price for the quality.
5) It's directional light works in many angles.

Lamps.com sent this light to me in a well packaged box and all I had to do was screw the legs and rod together.
When I work on hemming my husbands black dress pants, I just don't have enough light from overhead and my machine. You know, black pants, black thread equals a black blob! This directional lamp gives me that light boost that I needed!
The versatility of being able to move this lamp easily about from one side of the room to the other makes me very happy.
The table is reserved for all crafts and here I had my laptop and Silhouette machine set up creating...
                               with added light...Thanks Lamps.com!

(I had the overhead lights off to take these pictures because of the glare it would have caused. Normally it is much brighter in this room, but I still needed more light and this floor lamp is the answer to my added lighting dilemma.)

  3. I love your room! It's just beautiful! And yes more light as we get older. I once heard an optometrist, who happened to also be a quilter say that once we reached our 50's we actually need 2 lights shining down on our work. She is so right!
I love the skirting on your work table. May I ask how you have it attached?

  9. Your craft/sewing room is nicely done! I love the dollhouse sewing machine cover - a great alternative to the normal fabric covers I see.

  10. I'm 5' 4" too and I often have to hem my pants! Your craft room is really awesome and that cover for the sewing machine is too darn cute! I like the lighting too. I have the same problem these days (same age).
It's not fun to work on things that are dark either is it!!
