White Teapot Crystal Lamp!

The best thing about Winter for me is, that I am able to stay in out of the cold and create! This peticular day, I decdied to combine a tired looking vintage crystal lamp with ceramic teacup, saucer and teapot.

I took the old crystal lamp apart and cleaned all the pieces.

You just don't realize how easy it is to drill holes in ceramic and glass with a special drill bit that you can purchase at any hardware store. Just drill it under water to keep the drill bit moist and it will drill fairly easy.
So, after drilling all the key pieces, I just spent some time stacking each piece on a lamp rod till I got what was pleasing to my eye, and then wired it up for electricity.

Easy peasy and I'm so in love with this one that I am going to keep it...at least for a while.
Here is a picture with a black display board behind it so you can see the details better.

  4. Hi Terry, Love the lamp! I've been collecting things to make something like this on my own...but the hold up is the drill bit!! I'm just not sure what to get!! Is it for a regular size drill? or something small like for a Dremel tool? Could you go into a little more detail please?
Thanks for showing us all of your many projects!!

  5. The drill bit you are looking for costs around $16 and it's a diamond tip ceramic bit that looks hollow in the center. Get the size that a metal lamp rod would fit though.
This kind of drill bit needs to be kept wet or it will get hot and ruin the bit. I drill under a tiny bit of water just to keep then tip of the drill wet. I took a mirror into a glass shop to have a hole drilled...didn't realize that I could do it, anyway they dipped the end of the bit in cooking oil to keep it moist! Never thought of that till I saw it! Terry

  6. I just love it, it is so clever and cute. Best lamp I've ever seen....really. What creativeness you showed in creating this. I'm such a bull in a china shop. Last week I bought 5 red wine glasses at GW, before I got to the car I broke one, walking up to the house I dropped one bad and broke two more. this happens to me all the time....so no I know there is no why I would make it through with out breaking or worse yet I'd finish an be so happy...then I would break it!

  11. Anthro made something similar a few years ago except it was a candlestick stacked with china and knick knacs. They stopped making them because they made some with black memorabilia which was considered racist. I tried making some of my own and was going to sell them but never got around to it. Your lamp turned out stunning.
