It's all about the DeTaiLs ~ Chair!

Chair Back
It truly is

All about the details

Especially when you

Are talking about

THIS CHAIR!

Here is the chair Before I got my hands on it. It really needed some love, don't you think?

First, I must tell you that I am self taught when it comes to upholstery. I thought I had a picture of this chair in the 'naked' state of wood but can't find it :(
Second, I watched 13 YouTube videos that not only taught me a great deal, but gave me the courage to do this. I found Chris at DIYUPHOLSTERYSUPPLY.COM and a series of videos that went from start to finish on a chair similar to mine. I started with this first video...HERE.
Although I had done a lot of recovering and a couple of full chair recovers, these videos taught me things I never knew.
And Third, it helps that I am a perfectionist. I stripped the chair down to the bare wood. I then painted it with Annie Sloan's French Linen and distressed it. Then I had to select some fabric. I wanted it neutral so it would be stylish for a long time to come and no mater where in my home I placed it. I chose to use the leftover linen fabric from the vests that I recently made for my son's wedding! I made 8 of these vests!!!

Drum roll please.........................
Here is the After!
Now, let's look at the DETAILS!
Loved the front wood detail of the chair base and
took a que from my sofa and added nail head to the front.
I put on lots of single and double cording that I made.
Since I adore roses (it is my middle name after all) and love the unexpected in details, I added fabric roses in unexpected places...Like here at the base of the side arm.
On both sides no less! I even added leaves!
And in the lower back corners of the chairback.
It was time to decide on making a pillow specially for this sweet chair. Then I remembered I had this grainsack bolster pillow, that I made previously, that would be a nice contrast for now.
Here she is all comfy and sitting pretty in her new space.
Do you think you could take on a project like this? After completion, I told my hubby to 'shoot me' if I ever want to upholster a naked chair again. After all, I had to build the comfort from scratch with burlap webbing and layers of foam. I rate this project as difficult and not for the faint of heart, but she's done now!

  17. You did a super job on your chair! I love the rose details too! Reupholstering chairs has become something I really like to do... didn't think I'd say that about a year ago. The next one won't be nearly as hard.

  21. Nice chair mom. Should be soft out of that material. Get flower idea from Amy? When you're tired of it, strip the paint, use a black and white Longhorn or red and white Hereford hide to recover and I'll put it in my man cave. ; )
