For the love of pavers!

When something gets in

 my Hubby's head,

It's got to be done!

Whatever IT is!!

He has an attraction to old street pavers...

Hubby has been collecting these old pavers with words on them for a few years. His plan, to use them to build a patio. We have a cement patio, so no, not there. He was thinking out at the back of our yard under a tree where we have a swing on an A-frame.
Well, okay that would be nice and look good. So he dug down and we did the usual, rock bed, then landscape fabric, then sand, then pavers, and locking sand. It was a lot of work,
For him and me since I was the layer of the pavers! One would not know that it took 200 pavers for this area.
I gotta admit that the names are interesting to read all the different ones...
And it looks good...if only I can keep the paint from chipping off the swing!
While we were at it, we also built a little paver platform for our fireplace up closer to the house patio...

What hardscaping have you been working on?

  1. I have pavers like those! I love them...they make the walk from the front gate to the porch. So interesting to look at. Though mine aren't so symmetrical as yours... but hey! nobody else has what we have. You an interesting patio and me an interesting walk!
    I Love your swing area...

  6. how interesting with the names! 200 bricks, i'm telling you, i'm not surprised. we did a brick patio over memorial day weekend with brick that a friend had dug up, and we used all our stash, plus some of my SIL's. the whole thing is like 12x14 or something, and was probably 1000 bricks. but it looks great, so hey, i'll take it! enjoy yours!

  9. Your husband sounds a lot like me. lol! I read your opening paragraph to my hubby and he agreed. We did something similar with old used bricks and brick bats in our fire pit area a few years ago. Still love it! Yours looks great and the writing on the pavers is awesome! Visiting from Every Room in the House.

  10. What a great idea! I especially love that this is located in the wide back bed (in the shade!) so that it does not have to be moved to mow the lawn. Leave it to a guy (who most likely mows!) to think of that one. Donna @ White Oak Studio Designs.
