Creative Nativity Display

It all started this summer when my son gave me a single, huge elk antler. I knew that I wanted to use it for my Christmas display with greenery but the rest came as I was working on getting the loads of Christmas decor out to decorate...

I had seen a Nativity scene on Pinterest inside a cloche and knew that would be happening in my home!
This summer garage sales allowed me to locate a bit larger Nativity than what I previously had.
And with more statues, I tucked in some tiny vintage songbooks.
But the real story begins with this special box...
And my best friend from back 30 years ago with my time living in Tulsa. Amy and I were divorcees with a son each. We were making our mark on the world working in oil accounting.
                                                                               Then Amy married Skip.
Skip took a job on an American camp in Saudi Arabia. Amy and Skip lived there 10 years and came home 42 days a year. They decided to give these filled boxes as a special gift to all friends and family one year.
Amy collected frankincense and myrrh resin and had Saudi coins dipped in gold. She carefully packed all the boxes in her luggage...remember this was pre 911! And by the time they got to Houston, most of the boxes were missing from their luggage!
         All but a few.
I was one of the lucky ones that received a box and every year I get it out, think longingly of Amy and our time together and the meaning of the wise men bringing these gifts,

"And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshiped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold and frankincense, and myrrh" (Matthew 2:11).
