The Best of 2014

When 2014 first arrived, I thought this was going to be a lean year in terms of projects. My home was close to what I wanted it to look like
                                                 ...but oh I was wrong.
It's been a great year of improvements and completely new creations!

Beginning with this French china hutch that I actually purchased to "paint and sell". It turned out to fabulous that I kept it to house my Great-Grandmother's china!

Which leads me to the single 1911 book of pages that I wallpapered onto the walls in the very room as this china hutch!

Now that is what I call cheap decorating!

On to the next best of...And it all started with this piece of fabric...
I fell in love with the vintage look and changed this guest bedroom from green toile to this...

It also caused me to gather up my MacKenzie-Childs inspiration pieces and make this room the place for all that decor...who doesn't love black and white check?

I also no longer needed that green chair that I had the fabric laid on...yes, you guessed it, another project!
I painted the back fabric and reupholstered the seat. It's now located in my Master Bedroom!

Then that very fabric led to taking what I had made into a table and make a new bench for my vanity...
Moving on...but sticking with MacKenzie Childs inspiration, I found this plastic Hobby Lobby Deer ornament and made it into Christmas wall art! A bit of paint, old barn wood from my son's burn pile and a red painted frame was all it took!
Another favorite of mine is making all kinds of lighting. I found these old table legs and fashioned them into lamps for my living room!
I also took an orb and an old mini chandelier and made myself an orb hanging light for over the kitchen sink...
Or how about this cute lamp that I put together using a teapot, tea cup, saucer and an old glass lamp?
It's perfect on my dining room buffet!
Back to room redo's, the guest bathroom received an update as well...
The crystal sconces (found on our Kansas trip to see my son) started this project. A bit of beadboard, scrap granite and a vessel sink was all it took for a new look!
It's well known that I love painting furniture...for a new look and/or to keep it out of the dump!

This stinky broken-down dresser was the worst I had done in many, many years...I had to rebuild the whole piece before I could even think of painting it!
My grandson is taking shop class and will make the missing drawer for his parents, who I gave this to. Of course, I will have to paint the new drawer to match! Oh, another trip to Kansas!

I didn't need another dresser, but this one spoke to me at a garage sale. This piece was from England and a family piece that had seen it's better days, but the original large glass knobs and the details (plus the price $25) put me over the edge and I made room in our other guest bedroom for it.
The secret is also out that I enjoy chairs...any chairs that call out to me.

This $5 chair was stripped back to a naked wood frame and rebuilt. I used the left-over fabric from my son's wedding vests that I had made.
The fabric roses set it apart from other chairs that I have upholstered!
And lastly, these two ice cream chairs literally fell into my hands from a neighbors move. They were green and in need of a bit of love. I also took that wooden ironing board in the picture below and painted a welcome sign on it.
That is over one project a month and there are so many more this year on my blog. I just thought it was going to be a lean year for projects!

Now, On to more in 2015! Oh yeah, I have plans...we are having a new grand-baby in April...that means so much more! My daughter has me booked for a while!
