Winter Decor Favorites ~ Part I

Year after year, I do away with some seasonal decor, mainly because I keep making new stuff, but some are just my style and I still get a feeling of joy when I open the plastic storage totes and reveal what I have almost forgotten, as it was stored for almost 10 months. Notice the rock that was found above. It looks to be in the shape of Illinois which is where I live so it became a keepsake.

I painted this circle 'M' in the style of MacKenzie Childs...a favorite of mine.
I purchased this glittered little wire birdcage (above) in my travels and still love seeing it.
I made this foam core wreath by decoupaging old book page strips. Then making the bird, snowflake and roses, both fabric and music page roses. I added a snowflake like broach to add bling. It is one of my favorites too.
The urn (from Grandin Road) is always fun to change and decorate. This year, my daughter gave me the obelisk for Christmas and since I can't use it outside yet, I filled it with 'snowballs' and greens. The sign says, "Snowballs, 10¢".
On another antiquing trip, I found this vintage childs snow shovel. It was just too cute to pass up. So I purchased a teardrop swag greenery, attached the shovel and added a bow from upholstery webbing.
I continually find different ways to use this window house that Hubby just had to have last year. How foolish of him but how wonderful for me. It moves around the house with my imagination on what to put inside.
I used to have many skates, but downsized to just these and some on an old childhood sled of Hubby's on the front porch. Simply hung in an empty vintage white painted frame.
It's the fad and so cool right now...pallet projects. Though this "Baby it's Cold Outside" sign was not made by me, I enjoy getting it out for the cold winters of Illinois. It reminds me to stay in, read a good book or make another project since my least favorite season is winter.
Oops, forgot I had an old pair of clip-on ice skates, but paired with the old camera and one of 7 vintage typewriters that Hubby collects and restored, it quite a good setting.
I just love putz houses and have made quite a few. I try to think of different ways to display them every winter and this year I took half of them and placed them on this three-tier stand. The one in the cloche came from TJ Maxx a few years ago.
In my next post, I will share the rest of my putz houses.
Isn't the white painted twig snowflake just so cool? I purchased two from a gentleman that makes all kinds of fun stuff from wood. My daughter saw them and took one home for her house.
Who doesn't have a scale these days? This one is an old postal scale. With a Mr. and Mrs. German bible and an old creamer with a tree, how cute is this display?

  1. You have some wonderful winter goodies, Terry. We don't get much winter her usually so decorating for that season isn't something I do very much. If we did...I'd totally try to copy that little child's snow shovel which I loved the first time you posted it.

    Happy New Year!

  3. fun stuff here, I can easily see why you may have a huge collection. I think I put out about 10% this year...will have to do some serious editing next year as we are into a period of some major remodeling and I don't even have an idea of what of my holiday decor I will hang onto. Happy New Year...and great ideas here, especially like the frame and skates...a simple idea, but very effective! Sandi
