Fun New Home Decorating!

For the past five weeks, I have been helping a friend and client with pulling her new home together for a more cohesive look. I have blogged about this new home in July when they allowed furniture stores and decorators to come in (before they moved in) and use the house as a way to gain more funds for the Advocacy Network for Children. This tour was over and they moved in their own furniture.
This is where I came in...

I will show you areas of each room that I decorated.

First up, the formal dining room. My friend (the owner), purchased these triplicate art canvases online. I hung them on the wall, marked off a border area and a smaller outer boarder and taped it off. Took the pictures down and my friend painted the wall area the same brown as the alcove in this room. I then switched the area rug from the living room and we had professionally made drapes hung. The rest is all decor that we found at Hobby Lobby and other places in town. I also repainted her metal art that is hung in the alcove.

Next up, the living room. The rug came from the formal dining room. I made the pillows and recovered the bar stools in brown zebra. You can see more about this room in this post HERE.
I wall papered the powder room (the bowed toilet are for a builder's tour today) and stenciled the kitchen pantry walls.
In the master bedroom...until they get new furniture, all we had to do is buy new bedding at Bed, Bath and Beyond, and drapes from Hobby Lobby. We bought an extra curtain panel and I made the pillow on the chair and the blue one peeking out from the bed. A bit of decor and called it done. My friend had purchased the large mirror from the furniture store that had decorated this room for the first tour. (You may see signs around, like by the chair, that is from another tour today called the Parade of Homes. It's a new home builder's tour our city has every fall.) So you see, we did have a deadline to get this all done.

In the master bath, all that was needed were towels. easy!

In the kitchen we tiled the backsplash behind the stove and you can see more of the kitchen in the post above about the living room. When we were grouting, it looked like we were putting on chocolate brownie mix for the grout. Because we wiped it down so much to clean the tile, it lightened up and now it is a tan. We love how it turned out.

In the breakfast room, we had professionally made drapes hung. I bought the mirror and added a bit of decor then we called it good for now.
In the loft, I did the art that you can see HERE. We also purchased a cable system from Pottery Barn Teen that I hung on the wall to display her children's artwork. This is a wonderful system that is easy to install and looks good on the wall. I took an idea from Pinterest, and added the vinyl word, Masterpieces, above the cables. A few new pillows on the couches and it's done.

In the daughter's bedroom, I did most of my work. I have a post on that room HERE. I painted all her furniture which used to be the guest bedroom furniture. I painted a vanity and made a tutu skirting for it, hung a chandelier, made bed pillows and placed decor around the room. I even painted a cute mirrored side table that she purchased from me; I blogged about it HERE.

In their little boys room, I just added the night stands that I painted and called it done. You can see more on this by clicking for another post HERE.
In the play room, I just painted a shadow on the vinyl alphabet to make it show up better.

In the next bedroom, which was the guest bedroom, we used her currently unused baby furniture to stage a nursery. I painted the Lion and Giraffe canvases when her son was a baby.
That's about all I have to show you. Of course we tweaked all the bathrooms a bit. I think the whole house turned out well and it's so homey for this family. We are still working on the office, but that's another day.

  12. Indeed, indeed! Decorating a new home can be so much fun. It is refreshing to see the rooms before work gets done and the sheer potential of the interior, ready to be released. Planning, and then turning those plans into reality brings forth such a satisfying experience.

    P.S. The place looks spectacular!
