I have been working with a client on decorating her huge home. This post will only show parts of the formal dining room that I added decor to. There is much more to be done in this room.
The chairs are large and very nice but looked a bit masculine to me. So I made 8 lumbar pillows (12 x 18) with reddish fabric featuring dragonflies on the material. The background of the material coordinates with the one red feature wall in this room. The two end chairs are leather covered. I was hoping to soften the look with these pillows.
I also made a long table runner out of the same fabric.
I used the long shinny bouillion fringe to add a feminine touch.
See that fireplace behind the chair? My client wanted something above the mantle but not the usual picture or mirror one would think of. I did have the constraints of the square wood molding. But, when I saw this large beautiful wreath with the bright colored flowers and a huge butterfly, I knew it was perfect (at least seasonally) for this room.
I did change the original orange ribbon for a black/grey/white animal print ribbon, plus added some red flowers to tie in better with the room.
Below is the before picture that I took of the fireplace. This room has a THREE huge (and I mean giant) mirrored backed china cabinets that almost cover the whole red wall. A buffet is also in this room that I hung a mirror above, on my clients request. A rug could be added but it would have to be a huge one. Decor needs to be added to the buffet top, center of the table and in the china cabinets.
It is a room that I don't think I will be able to complete before the Christmas season is upon us or maybe ever. I am very troubled by too much furniture in this room so I don't show you the whole space. I think that they bought too much oversized furniture even though the home is huge!

ReplyDeleteWonderful fabric choice and the fringe does balance out the masculinity of the room. I also like the "wildness" of the wreath versus a painting. Beautiful job!
ReplyDeleteGreat choice, Terry! Love the fabric it has an oriental flair and really pairs well with and softens the chairs.
