See why I call this bookcase 'Lacey'?
It has really pretty cut-outs that make it look that way to me.
The bookcase came to my door looking like this...
I loved the lines of this piece and knew what I was going to do with it. But first, I need to remind you about this previous bookcase...
See the before where someone had painted it and it was pink on the inside. I found out that they did NOT paint it pink, that is BLEED THROUGH that you are seeing. I primed it and the pink came though! I sealed it with Polycrylic sealer before I re-primed and painted two layers of paint on this piece. Yes, it is pretty and I blogged about it HERE, but eventually that darned ol' pink is coming though Again...
Very subtle but it's coming back to haunt me (see the pink streaks at the arrow?) and I just don't have the time or patience for a piece of furniture that is going to act up this way. That is unless YOU can give me the easiest solution to keeping this from happening!
In comes the new, albeit smaller, but sweeter bookcase!
Hello Lacey!
I think she can stay for a while, but now that I look at this picture, I see I need to do a bit of rearranging!

A quick coat of shellac will stop the bleed through!
ReplyDeleteBut Lacey is just gorgeous - loving her details
XOX
Thanks, I will try that!
DeleteI wonder if Lacey has a twin? I love her.
ReplyDeleteLacey actually does have a twin. I had never seen these kind of bookcases before, but found a blue one at a estate sale. My daughter has is in her new little house. I loved it so was happy to find this one for me!
DeleteLacey is adorable! She had some great bones... and those white pitchers are so sweet... What a great collection!

This looks just wonderful. I absolutely love the collection of pitchers - I never would have thought to do that there. I always enjoy seeing what you're up to!

ReplyDeleteFantastic transformation!!

Cute shelf! I have one similar, but cut-outs all down the side, still in original but dinged up wood finish.
ReplyDeleteThe kitchen in our first house was painted pink at some point. Not a shy sweet pink - it was BRIGHT pink. It was bleeding through the green it was painted when we bought it. It bled through the yellow (4 coats) when I painted that kitchen. Finally, I wised up and repainted using Kilz stain blocker primer. That worked and I only needed 2 coats of yellow. Now any time I paint a light color, especially yellow, over darker, I use Kilz primer first.
so pretty! i love pieces with details like that!
ReplyDeleteThere's a product called Killz that you can add to paint, that will keep other paints(mold and mildew) from bleeding thru.
ReplyDeleteOooo... love your header!!Beautiful. Have a great weekend. If you have a favorite ornament or make an ornament, come and link up at our Christmas Ornament Party. Thanks, Linda
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking to Adorned from Above party.
Terry,
ReplyDeleteThis is so pretty. I can't believe the pink keeps coming through. I would be very frustrated. Thanks so much for sharing at Wednesday's Adorned From Above Blog Hop. This weeks party starts at 12:01AM on Wednesday and runs through Sunday night. Have a great week.
