Anniverasry Wall Art Tribute and a Love Story!

It's the year of my 20th anniversary!

I know a lot of people my age have been married a lot longer than that, but I have been blessed to have FINALLY found the perfect mate for me...after a dud or two or three or four! Not marriages mind you!

I have decided to tell you how we met and during this process, tell you how I made this Anniversary Wall Art Tribute!

Background, I married my high school sweetheart, Dave just two weeks after I graduated at age 17! We bought a farm in Kansas complete with hogs, cattle, horses and wheat. That is how he was raised. I was raised in the Air Force and moved around a lot. It was a crash course for me to learn this new way of life. After years of infertility, I was blessed five years into the marriage with my son, Charlie.

By this time, the marriage was basically over, but I stayed for three more years.
Anniversary Wall Art Tribute: I purchased this Chevron burlap table runner from Pick Your Plum (online). It was too long, so I cut some of it off. Not knowing what I was going to do with this leftover piece.

After the divorce at the ripe old age of 25, I moved to Tulsa (2 hours away). A city that was large enough for me to get a good job and close enough to be able to share our son. After another shock of being alone in a big city and a few years of barely scraping by, I finally landed my dream job as a accounting assistant at Amoco Oil Company. Things were looking up. I also wall papered homes on weekends to be able to get additional funds and live in a better house. I bought my first small cottage house all by myself. Who needs a man right? Or so I thought...

At work I passed a short guy named Tim (he's 5' 4 1/2" to my 5') and said "Hi"! Six months after that encounter, he quit and moved back to his hometown of Quincy, Illinois.

Life went on after that brief encounter and six years later, at the age of 32, I found myself pregnant with my boyfriend, David! Yep, another one of those! I learned very quickly what kind of a guy David was and he was not the responsible type even at his age of 45!!! He had never been married and had no children and I soon learned why! My new decree was, No more Dave's for me...ever again!!!

Anniversary Wall Art Tribute: I had this cool vintage frame and decided that I could sandwich the Chevron Burlap between the glass and backer board and it would be a background for what I was going to attach to the glass!

had a great group of friends that not only led me back to the Lord, but also helped in every way with assisting me with my children as well as my spirit. I was then blessed with my daughter, Lisa Marie! Now I felt complete with two beautiful children...and I could also experience one of each sex. Girls play so much different than boys!
At Amoco, they tended to move around supervisors a lot. My supervisor, by the time Lisa was 1 and Charlie was 10, was Roy. He was a great guy, had a wonderful wife and a couple of boys. He also happened to still be friends with Tim. Remember that brief encounter?

For a year, Roy would ask if he could give my number to Tim. I kept telling him no because Tim was five years younger than me and he didn't live in the state of Oklahoma!
Anniversary Wall Art Tribute: Using my Silhouette Cutting Machine and white vinyl. I cut out the information that I wanted and simply applied it on top of the glass.

I was asked on a lake trip with Roy and Marty, his wife for the Fourth of July. Initially I accepted, but then had to cancel close to the trip because I was buying a bigger ranch style house so each child could have their own bedroom and found out that I had to move that weekend. What I didn't know, is that Roy had also arranged with Tim to come on this lake trip.  Well, Tim did go and Roy talked about me and what a great match we would make. Tim wanted my number!

Finally, after a year of pestering, Roy got his way and gave my number to Tim. That is when the ball started rolling!

Tim drove the two hours from Quincy to St. Louis and caught a flight on Southwest and came to Tulsa bearing gifts for all! Our first date was nice. We both loved antiques and flea markets, so we planned a second date a month later.

On the second date, I was sick with a cold and told him not to come. He flew out anyway and as I was sick on the couch, he washed all my windows, including screens on my new home! He then flew back home.

On the next several dates, it was touch and go. He got food poisoning...so you know how that date went. Another one was Lisa's third birthday and he brought her so many gifts that we had our own private birthday party for her.

But, by that fourth date, I found out that I needed a hysterectomy. That would mean no children for Tim so I told him that he needed to quit dating me and go find a girl to become his wife so he could have his family. He left and said that he would think about it. By the time he arrived home, he called and asked that if things worked out between us, could he adopt Lisa? He knew that Charlie already had a Dad. I said yes, but if this happened, he would have to wait a year before I would allow it to make sure he was a good man. My track record was not the best in the men department after all!

After a year of dating long distance, we married in Tulsa and moved to Quincy, IL. Tim adopted Lisa when she was almost 5 and one would never know that they are not blood. This was taken last Nov. at my son's wedding.
Lisa, 23   Tim, 50

In my life experiences, I have found that the quality of man that Tim is, is very rare. He is ambitious, witty, smart, humble, loving and a Christian. People that don't know our story, think Lisa looks more like Tim than she does me! God has his ways.

I have been blessed a third time with my marriage to Tim. He is the kindest and most thoughtful man to me and my children. I also need to thank Cupid Roy, for being persistent enough to harp on me for a year about giving Tim my number! It's been a great 20 years! I'm ready for more! No pun intended...
