From Fountain to Pond

Remember this homemade bubbler fountain,
 right off our back patio?...
I made it by sinking a huge plastic tote in the ground, covering it with three barbecue grill grates and topping it off with rock and a rock-looking fiberglass form.

That was after plumbing a hose connecting a fountain pump in the water. It was a nice sound but I longed for something louder, bigger...
Enter a small pond liner from Menards called a Peanut
(because of it's shape) and a small waterfall...
Hubby and I simply dug up the plastic tote and after making the hole a bit bigger, dropped in this liner. I watched a YouTube video on how to install and they are easy-peasy!
The pump is in the pond water at the bottom. The tubing runs along the outside, up the waterfall behind the rocks and
 over the top.
We strategically layered the rock so the water sprays out and forms a nice flowing waterfall.
Next year I will add a Lily Pad to the pond. For now,
 it went from this...
To this...
Love the sound. Love the look.
Hubby still didn't like the looks of this so...
We got some leftover faux (concrete) stone from the builder that I do books for and Hubby lined the pond with them. It failed when he tried to line the waterfall with them though.

We will come up with a solution to the black plastic showing someday.

  1. Great job Terry! If you can get a large flat stone to lay across those plastic bridge parts it might cover them up. Also if and when you get a few plants in there it helps hide the pond liner.

  2. I love your pond. Where did you get that adorable cat?

  3. This is so pretty! What a nice job that you did and it's got to be quite relaxing to be out there next to it! :)

  4. I wonder if you could use some spray paint for plastic that is the sandy color of the rocks to cover up the black?

  5. We're putting in a pond too! We got a pond liner that wasn't shaped so we could design it ourselves and a pallet of Pennsylvania fieldstone for around it. We're working on the waterfall now; my husband is planning to glue smaller pieces of the fieldstone to the front of the plastic bin that makes the top of the waterfall. I'll blog it when it's done and try to remember to come back here to show you. In the meantime, we've already got plants going, as well as 7 fish and a dozen frogs/tadpoles. I love it!
