Furniture Problems and Solutions!

The furniture problems...

1) I spilled some rubbing alcohol on my vanity top while cleaning earrings
2) I have bleed though on my painted vanity
3) I sold my vanity chair at my last garage sale
The Furniture Solutions...

First of all, I didn't know that rubbing alcohol was a furniture stripper. Now I know! How did I get to be 56 and not have the happen before? I usually use the bathroom sink is why. I thought the walnut veneer on the top of this piece was too thin to re-sand and re-finish. I opted for solution #2: Hide it with paint.
I taped off an area to paint.
And free-hand painted my own doily!
NOTE: There are comments about this doily that I will address here. This was not a stencil. I free-hand painted this. And the paint used on the whole piece was Annie Sloan's Old White Chalk Paint.
Secondly, I will deal with the bleed though later. I know I have to seal with shellac and repaint. I'm just not up to it now with all the other projects I am working on.

Thirdly, the vanity chair was cute and it looked good, but I have learned to pay close attention to how I use my space. I don't lean back in the chair while putting on make-up. Therefore, a stool will work and it tucks under the vanity since we don't have a large master bedroom.
And after I did this chair for the room, I wanted something that would coordinate... Enter this stool!
A couple of years ago, I picked up this stool.

At the same flea market, I found a tray that fit it and turned it into a side table in another guest bedroom.
I love tables and others came into my home so I didn't need this one anymore. I stained the wood dark walnut to match the vanity top and used the same Hobby Lobby fabric that I did on the chair seat to upholster the stool (after cutting a piece of wood into an oval and buying foam).
It now tucks into it's space like it was meant to be.

If there is a WILL, there is a WAY!

  7. I so want to go shopping with you. I don't throw the word love around, but I love your room. The colors, fabrics, collection of purses & the (sorry don't know what it is) thing they are hanging on, it all works beautifully together. How did you paint the fringe? Thanks for the heads up on alcohol, I too made it to 56 without knowing.
