Flea Market Fleas

How many of us out there have been dreaming of doing something or going somewhere and think, "maybe someday"! Well that "someday" came for Hubby and me.  We have been wanting to
go to the Third Sunday Market ever since we heard about it.

The Third Sunday Market is a HUGE flea market held in Bloomington, IL on the third Sunday of the month through Oct. And to top it off, the prices were very reasonable overall.

Bloomington, IL is three hours north of us, so we left on Saturday morning. We shopped antique and thrift stores; craft and department stores. We stayed at our favorite Hampton Inn. Then the anticipation built for Sunday morning! I couldn't believe that we were actually getting to go. 450 vendors! Inside and outside. Crazy good even in the rain that day! We visited it all!!! We were in our element of what we think of as heaven on earth!

Everything you could think of was found here. From primitives and fine antiques, to seasonal crafts and junque! I even found a sewing machine like the one I just did a post about...
This is what the one that I have is supposed to look like. Here is a picture of mine (below) and the post I did on its history HERE.
What did we bring home? Here are our treasures...
An ornate bridge arm floor lamp. Vendor wanted $30, I paid $22.
Hubby collects old heat vent grates. Vendor wanted $15, he paid $7.

A piece of a fluted column. Vendor wanted $25, we paid $15. Hubby will make a top and bottom and this will become a showpiece.
A sweet tiny table. Vendor wanted $18, I paid $15. This will be so wonderful painted.

Bloomington Garage sale table. Guy wanted $7, I paid $5. I just sold one just like this in my booth.
Old tray for $2 that I will transform.
I saw this ironstone teapot from across the aisle. I figured it was priced about $30 and I was geared up to pay $25 and be happy. It was priced at $10 and I paid $8! This was my favorite find that day.

A HUGE 2-tier wire basket. Vendor wanted $25, I paid $22.
Here is what it looks like on my front porch with a flower pot set in the top and some of my collection of watering cans placed in the bottom. I can't express how large this really is.
We had so much fun. Walked our legs off and ate some good food. We met a lot of great friendly folks. We WILL be back!

  7. Im so jealous - all the flea markets around here are just undercover shops selling cheap new knockoffs and electronics from other countries. Where in Ontario can you find such a treasure trove flea market??

  9. Wow! Great stuff!!! My father was a State Farm Insurance agent, so I know where Bloomington is. The headquarters was there. Don't know if it still is.... He retired after a lifetime of being an agent about 5 years ago.
