Week 10 ~ Diamonds In The Rough!

Diamonds In The Rough! is my weekly feature, where I show you the treasures that I find from garage sales, thrift store and antique stores.

Here are my treasures from this weeks garage sales:
A $7 table. This will be sold at the antique store.

A $2 very old and very cool genuine cowhide leather suitcase that I was going to sell in my booth, but Hubby loves it, so I guess we are keeping it!
Look at the inside! Very interesting.
Now this little $5 table grabbed my attention right away. Can you see it painted in MacKenzie Childs style...I can and I will.
Here are the cute legs on this adorable table complete with all the dirt and grime that came with it.
A 25¢ scarf, two 10¢ glass bowls for my garden art project and a sweet bunny cookie cutter.

DEAL OF THE DAY! Brand new BareMinerals foundation in my color, regularly $17.99 each, I paid 25¢ each for the six of them!!!!!
An vintage enamelware bowl, $1. I will sell in my booth.
Now, on to what I bought for my daughter's apartment...
A nearly new Hoover Vac!
Two cute canisters, $1.
She has been wanting a water purifier, this one was only $1 with a new unused filter. And coasters to keep her from ruining the tables that I painted for her. Uhhh, Hubby accidentally dropped ALL of the coasters in the garage BEFORE I was able to give them to our daughter. None survived the crash!

New House Tour~THIS IS NOT MY HOME!

Do you want to take a house tour of a new home? But not mine... I am friends with a builder's wife. When her hubby gets done building a home, we usually go and clean it so the new owners can move in. We don't have the luxury of being there alone. Seems as though there are tile guys finishing up, electricians and plumbers, even carpenters doing the last minute finishes. This home was no different, but the electricians left early and the tile guys left about an hour before we finished. We can't get it perfect since the workers are still in there, but we get it mostly clean for the new owners. Let's go on a tour of this farmhouse.

This house was an hour away from where we live. On the way there we drove by the biggest snapping turtle that I have ever seen. It was the size of a dinner plate, so I hollered, "Stop, I gotta get a picture!"
 Now on with the tour...
Walking in the front door, you see a stairway going upstairs
See the french doors? That is the office and my daughter that helped us clean, forgot to take a picture of it. So lets go on upstairs.
This is the hall upstairs where there are two bedrooms and a bathroom.
This is the daughters bedroom. They had some stuff moved in.

This is the upstairs bathroom that the kids will share.
This is the sons bedroom.
Now lets go back to the main floor and look around, but first see the view from upstairs down into the livingroom.

Okay, my daughter didn't take any other pictures of the livingroom. It has a see through fireplace that looks into the breakfast table area and kitchen.

My daughter took a picture of me in the kitchen after the tile guys left. The builder's wife is behind my head cleaning up. The tile guys will have to come back the next day to grout. I am facing the breakfast table area and see through fireplace which she did not take a picture of. I never said that she was detail oriented.
Down the hall from the livingroom is a guest bedroom and private bathroom. Daughter did not take a picture of the bath in this room, but it's a nice standard bath.
This is the laundry room off the master bedroom. They still have a bit of work to do in here before it's done.
This is the master bedroom. It features a bay window. Then the master bathroom is off this to the right along with a huge walk-in closet. The tile guys still have to finish up in here too.

Lets head on to the basement. The door is in the living room that goes to the basement.
The stairs still needs to be carpeted.

A storage closet under the stairs.
 Basement bathroom.
Walk-out basement and the view you see is their horses and barn.

This is the basement bedroom.
My daughter also didn't take a picture of the powder room and cool mud room complete with huge closet and bench and cubby area.  There is also a large walk-in pantry.

So lets review. Main floor has, two bedrooms, laundry, powder room, two bathrooms (master and guest), kitchen, breakfast dining room, living room, office, and mud room.
Upstairs floor has, two bedrooms and a bathroom.
Basement floor has, one bedroom, a bathroom and huge living area.

That's four and a half bathrooms and five bedrooms! This is one of the smaller homes this builder builds and he is working on finishing his own home and I have the pleasure of helping his wife pick the finishes. I just wall papered their powder room yesterday, so soon I will be able to show you their stunning and HUGE home.
I hope you enjoyed this tour...next time I will be the one taking the pictures, so you can see all the house. Even though it's empty, it's always fun to see a new home and it's layout and finishes, don't you think?

My Front Yard

I figured it was high time that I showed you my yard and gardens. This post will feature the front of the property.

Our home was built in 1997 on farm ground that became a one street (cul-de-sac) subdivision (14 houses). The builder built this home first and it's on the third lot in. The beauty of this lot is that no home can be built across the street in front, because it belongs to the builders family and it's the beginning of the lake (large pond) that is in this area. And  no one can build in the back because it is a 5 acre farm ground that is land locked (sandwiched) between two subdivisions. That's probably more information than you even cared to know. We bought the house when it was five years old.
Newly purchased, in 2002...all white upper story, young landscaping.
Here's the story...Hubby and I came to see this home on a new-house-tour.  I remembered all the crown moldings and the built-ins. I told Hubby that it was the closest thing to my dream home that I have ever seen. I knew that we couldn't afford it, so we went home to our tiny ranch house.

Five years later after paying off our ranch, Hubby said, "Okay, now you can have a bigger home." We went to a couple of builders for bids and got sticker shock.  We went to some open houses too. Hubby wanted a geo-thermal home which are big in our area. Very cheap living for heating and air conditioning.

Finally Hubby said, "let's go drive by your dream home." I was fairly new to the area at the time we visited this dream home and I didn't even know where it was. As we approached the house, a small red arrow was in the yard that said, "For Sale"! I couldn't believe my eyes. I knocked on the door and the builders wife answered. I said, "How much is the house?" She told me and I hand signed the amount to my Hubby who was still in the car. I told her that we would take it! Needless to say, she was shocked and said, "Don't you even want to look at it?" I said that I already had five years earlier when it was built, but made an appointment to come back the next day.

Twenty-eight days later and with interest rates in an all time low, we became the new owners of this lovely home.  The part I didn't tell you was that I listed our ranch house for sale in the newspaper on my own. I sold it the first day, third showing for CASH!  We took that cash and put it into this home. The other beauty of this home is that with it being geo-thermal, our monthly electric bills (geo-thermal is all electric) are the same as our previous ranch of gas and electric and this house it twice the size. Sweet!
I painted the 1801 on the rock. I wanted it to look artsy!

See the rock wall? This wall was built by the builder. He said that when they bought the land, there was an original farmhouse across the street. He said that he could not save that house because it was too damaged.  But he did save the foundation rock and the original red barn is still standing across the street from our house. Our rock wall was made using the rock from the foundation of the original farm house! Cool history. We have one of these rock walls in the back that I will share with you in a later post.
We love to garden and putter in the yard. So we ripped out some undesirable landscaping. We painted the upper story. Basically we went to work putting our personality on our place. I even painted 'bricks' on the sidewalk!

Plants had to be changed as the trees grew larger and there was more shade. Finally, here are my front gardens you have been patiently waiting for.
The front rock wall with day lilies and lambs ear.

This wagon is 73 years old. My grandfather bought it for my mother when she was one year old.

Tree name: Harry Lauder Walking Stick

When we bought the house, the trees were not included in the landscaping, but I connected them because I could not get my riding mower between the tree and where it was landscaped.

Potting bench on the front porch, now sold...do I ever keep anything?

Before the new glass in the front door was added. Sold this furniture too!
After, with the new glass in the door
You can see across the street...no house but a lake beyond the trees.

The sugar maple turns this beautiful red color in the fall.

Hosta's called Francee, loves the east facing sun.

Hope I wasn't too long winded for you and you enjoyed your tour of the front. As with any garden, it changes from year to year, but has grown and filled in nicely in our 9 years here.
Soon, I will post about the back yard with much more to see.
