I crave order and I love to organize! The one room in my home that has been driving me nuts is, my storage room. This room is in the basement where I store clothing and holiday decor. It's a good size room but I have always had a problem trying to just stack my plastic tubs one on top of the other, so if I need something out of the lower tub, I have to unstack the whole thing. It's a hassle and makes the room messy. See what I mean...
The builder had put in two wire racks for hanging clothing, but I didn't have clothing to hang on this side of the room. Here's how I solved this problem. I researched free-standing shelving units and came upon this one...
Not only was it good looking and sturdy, it was on sale. I measured the plastic tubs that I already had for size and knew that I could place two tubs per shelf. Then I figured that I could put four of these storage units along the wall after taking down the white clothing racks.
Here is the result...
I can now just pull the tub I need off the shelf without having to unstack each and every one above it!
Okay, let's move on to the other side...
This had the white racks as well, but I knew that I needed to have storage for clothing. Hubby and I lost weight and have many clothes too large. He stores his suits down here that are too big. Here is what it looks like now...
I left the white shelving for now because I didn't need more tub storage.
On the wall as you come in, I hung my winter/Christmas frames.
I am so happy with the organization that I actually show off this room now. My friend loved it so much that she had me come over and do her attic storage room above her three car garage. Here is her before...
And after.
And the other side of the room before...
And after...
I had angled walls to deal with in this room. We built 10 units and some we left in two sections because they worked better being shorter. I organized her spaces into Holiday, Decor, Kids toys, Kids clothes, etc.
It feels so good to not only be organized but knowing that when something is needed, it's easy to find and not an ordeal to get out.
Let's recap. Left side Before, Right side After!

WOW that was a lot of work. It looks so organized. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteI love to see a plan come together! You did a great job!! Want me to give you my address?
ReplyDeleteI am sooooo jealous that you have a basement. Your room looks fabulous.
ReplyDeleteOMGoodness Terry, that looks amazing! I need you to come and help me in my garage...it looks like your before. Hope you have a wonderful weekend, Gail
ReplyDeleteIMPRESSIVE! Total transformation! I'm doing a series entitled "Decluuttering 101" over on my blog. We are in the process of decluttering our entire house and shed. Well, actually we just finished our shed last weekend. Huge job but well worth it. Now, we are continuing through the house. We are being ruthless with our purging, donating or selling items from each room!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, a very big CONGRATULATIONS on losing all the weight (both of you), and I'm kind of curious why you would keep clothing that is now too large for you?
Great job!! exactly what I am about to do here too.
ReplyDeleteOh, that looks so wonderful. I'm sitting here drooling over it.
ReplyDeleteWow, you did a great job!
ReplyDeleteI need shelves like yours. I have all my "stuff" in bins in the basement, stacked one on top of the other. :( Maybe soon! You've inspired me!!
ReplyDeleteSo nice. What an improvement. Not only do I like seeing things looking neat, but it is sonice you can now find things and not have to worry about pulling out stuff that is just in the way. Way to go, girl!
ReplyDeleteI wish I had purchased CLEAR totes. Makes it so much easier to find things. This after I got my Christmas decorations out this afternoon. They are labeled, but I do wish they were clear & I had another shelf unit like your's. That's a lot of work, but definitely worth it!
ReplyDeleteKaren from Buffalo
Impressive!! Saw you link up on a bunch of link parties. Would love it if you linked up on my blog hop and added it to your list www.w-t-fab.com/search/label/bloghop. Also let me know if you'd like to follow each other!
ReplyDeleteWow! Nicely done! I am moving and cannot wait to unpack and get organized. Thanks for the inspirational images!
ReplyDeleteGood work. I love the organization! :)
ReplyDeleteWow Wow Wow! This is awesome! I've got some shelving units, too, and I love them, but you went to the nth degree! It's so beautifully organized......you could hold a square dance with all that space in the middle now! :o)
ReplyDeleteI started to organize my attic on my fall school break, but I didn't finish. I need to make my attic look like your friends. It is so much easier to find things when they are in the right place.
ReplyDeletePerhaps not pretty, but you are everyone's envy anyway! Mine anyway.....
ReplyDeletesigh...
hugs x
Crystelle
I would kill to have all that space for storage!! Looks great!
ReplyDeleteHugs.
Debbie
Oh how wonderful to have that amazing room and great job of organizing it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great job you did. It's so organized. (Mine should be so good! Scheesch!)
ReplyDeleteYour basement is wonderful. Where did you buy your shelves?
ReplyDeleteAUGH! I love it! Come organize my house, PLEASE?? :)
