Some of my reader's may remember my long ago post on my master bathroom.
About six years ago, when I first met my Young-and-Cute, Handy-Dandy-Handyman Trent, together we gutted my carpeted, huge garden tub and single sink master bathroom for a more functional and timeless style that it is today.
However, we didn't do one thing...
Let's start from the beginning, shall we?
Our master bathroom consists of two rooms. The first room has the sinks and tub and this is what it looks like today after the remodel...
Mr. Young-And-Cute (is not my hubby. He is a young man that I met after he returned from 6 years in the Army and a tour in Iraq. He is currently 30 and has become like family to my hubby and myself since he has allowed me to assist him in redoing most of our home to date) and I spent three weeks gutting and redoing the sink and tub room. We...
*Install a pocket door between the sink/tub room and the toilet/shower room, vs. a standard door that always was in the way.
*Tiled the floor that was carpet. Though I could not find the matching tile that was already in the toilet/shower room, the builder had left a few extra tiles. I used these as a center point with the new coordinating marble tile around the perimeter.
*Installed a new higher American Standard toilet.
*Installed bead board on the walls.
*Installed two pedestal sinks.
*Installed a slipper claw-foot tub.
*Installed a ceiling fan for hubby.
*Installed a chandelier on a dimmer for me.
*Installed cabinetry for storage.
*Installed new swivel mirrors and lighting.
*Painted the walls and ceiling.
Basically, we remodeled everything but this!
This is in the second room. The toilet/shower room. It already had marble tile flooring and a nice built-in above the toilet...But the shower was just okay. It was a 3 foot by 4 foot one piece molded fiberglass shower. The only thing we did do was take out the brass door and install a new door.
Now for the exciting part...at least it is to me. We had our too small and not nice enough shower ripped out...
Good-Bye old shower...you will not be missed!
We had a new shower installed. They cut out the tile floor a foot bigger into the room (thankfully we had the space) to allow for a 4 by 4 foot shower.
*Installed a center light within the shower.
*Installed a 4 x 4 white Onyx low-profile shower base (floor).
*Tiled in white subway tile (including the ceiling) along with accent tiles of green and white glass tile and the marble tile that matches the new marble in the sink/tub room. Edged the shower with tiled chair rail.
*Added two wall niches for accommodating shower supplies.
*Installed Onyx glass shower door that swings both ways.
Since I would be repainting this room, and by enlarging the shower, they had to truncate my painted tree mural...
I said good-bye to the tree mural and in place of it I made a new towel rack. Here is what I did.
I took a foot board from a bed that was left in our rental house by a previous tenant...
And Hubby cut off the legs. I flipped it around so the top became the bottom and the bottom became the top.
I added two finials where the legs were cut off. I painted it and where the center accent board is, I added the vinyl word, "Towels" using my handy Silhouette Cutting Machine.
I also added four hooks. Here is the outcome of this piece.
We absolutely love our new shower and I think it fits right into the space and style we made these rooms to be, Don't you think?

Your bathroom is Gorgeous! It looks like something out of a magazine. Love the fresh new look incorporating your vintage flair. Have to say, taking that ugly ol' footboard and transforming it the way you did was pure genius.
ReplyDeleteOh my word, I love it. What a fabulous redo and the original side with the tub and vanities is amazing. What a fabulous bathroom. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteThe sink/tub side was not original. I redid that to look that way six years ago. Love it all now. Vintage meets Traditional and oh so functional!
DeleteI really like your towel rack. Our bathroom needs an update as well and I enjoyed the tour of yours. Good ideas!
ReplyDeleteHi Terry,
ReplyDeleteYour bathroom redo is so gorgeous. Love the shower tile and the towel rack that you created from the old headboard....ingenius!
hugs
Sissie
Oh so pretty, really love the towel rack!! We have a fiberglass shower stall also, sometimes I think I would like a tile one but then it would be harder to clean...ha. The other side of the bath is gorgeous too love the crown molding and the beautiful tub!! Aren't those pocket doors so wonderful? We just put one on our powder room bath and it works sooooooooo much better. Love your blog! Blessings, Linda
ReplyDeleteTile showers were never hard to clean, it was the grout that caused all the problems. Now they have improved the grout to have a sealer in it that will last it's lifetime. Just pay the bit more for the better grout and you my dear will have a beautiful tiled shower from now on.
DeleteTerry, What a gorgeous bathroom! Your new shower is fabulous and I love the cute towel rack.
ReplyDeletexx,
Sherry
Wow,...wow....wow. What a gorgeous bathroom and that towel rack is one of the best repurposing creations I have seen this week! What a great team you and your husband are. Everything is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful! One very thoughtful, thrifty, and talented family!
ReplyDeleteSo lovey and restful. The towel rack is flat out amazing!! Clever girl!!
ReplyDeleteThe shower is awesome...and I totally LOVE that towel rack. Great repurpose!
ReplyDeleteKelly
Oh, my GOODNESS!! I LOVE what you have done, everything is extraordinary. I have the same fiberglass shower and woud be so happy to get rid of it because; 1. to get in and out of it is very difficult for me, 2. the seat is in the corner (sort of)and too small, 3. the step to get in is too high. I live in an apartment that is about twenty-five yrs. old and needs some updating. I would have to pay up front because I don't have anything they can take from me in lieu of not owning the space. Your pos has encouraged me to qustion them abut outright payment. TFS.
ReplyDeleteThe bathroom is gorgeous and I love that shower.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
Hope to see you on my blog:)
Greetings from Singapore...
Fantastic job redoing your bathroom! The footboard turned towel rack is amazing! Great job!
ReplyDeleteI am now following on GFC and bloglovin' and invite you to visit my blog in return.
Judith
You have such a pretty bathroom and I love the towel holder! Very creative!
ReplyDeleteI bought a slipper tub a few years ago and I have to admit for me it's not very practical. I don't like the fact you can't fill it high enough to cover the top part of your body when submerged. Is that an issue at all for you too?
The whole room is fabulous and I'm pinning that towel rack!
ReplyDeleteFABULOUS! I love the towel rack!!!
ReplyDeletePretty bathroom. Great job. Love the towel rack!
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful! I love it and especially the towel rack.
ReplyDeleteWoW Terry!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
Catherine
What a fabulous bath! Love your new shower, and the towel rack is amazing!!
ReplyDeleteLove it all but that towel rack it to die for! :)
ReplyDeleteLoooove the tub area with the leaded glass hanging above the claw foot tub and the cafe style curtains..add the chandy and I think I'll swoon. You did wonders with the headboard. The whole set up looks amazing. You should be proud.
ReplyDeleteYour new shower is gorgeous!! And I love the towel rack you made!!
ReplyDeleteMary Alice
Oh you are such a lucky girl to get such a gorgeous shower! I am in awe.... And that towel rack! LOVE it!!!! Pinning.... :) You rock!! Have a great week.

Amazing remodel and I love the towel rack. Great job!!

Awesome makeover Terry! Love that towel rack! Thank you for sharing it at What We Accomplished Wednesdays. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteHugs,

Oh, Terri... Talk about perfect timing!! I am moving into a cute little cottage in two weeks and the master bath needs some work. Typical long counter (was it Corian?) with double sinks. As its a home built in 1909, I wanted to do something more vintage. I hope in my bathroom there is enough space for the two sinks with a cabinet in between. That would be a perfect solution. Am I excited now!!!! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteOh how I love the way your shower turned out!!! Wish I knew about the tile chair rail pieces for use on the edge - would have definitely used them on our shower remodel, they look great and add such a nice detail. I also never considered tiling the entire wall & ceiling - love that look. Altogether, a fantastic, beautiful and creative makeover!!!!
ReplyDeleteAmazing makeover. I love the new shower with those amazing tiles and that upcycled towel rack is fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to let you know that I featured your gorgeous bathroom on homework. Thanks so much for sharing it on The Inspiration Board.

wow, this is fabulous, love it all and that towel holder is such a great idea! beautiful job on the entire room!!
ReplyDeleteWow! The new shower is beautiful but I really envy you that claw foot bathtub! I'm a tub gal myself :) Your bath-suite looks like something out of House and Garden or Architectural Digest. And what an imaginative use for the old headboard. Wouldn't have thought of that myself in a million years. Some people have it; some of us don't. I'm one of the don'ts, LOL! So glad people like you are around to show this "don't" how it's done.
ReplyDeleteOh. Wow. Can I come live in your bathroom?!?!?
ReplyDeleteThe bathroom turned out beautifully!!
ReplyDeleteI love what you did with the old foot board!!
Have a blessed and wonderful day!!
GOR-GEOUS! Thanks for sharing your amazing master bath at Every Room In The House, Terry. This will be one of the features. See you there! ~ Nancy
ReplyDeleteWow, what a transformation!!! and so gorgeous too. Great job!
ReplyDeleteWhat size are the mirrors and where from?
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! I have an old headboard and I'm going to copy your towel holder. I love it! Thanks.
