My yard and gardens are always changing, even if I don't want them to because of Mother Nature.
This year we changed up some of the hardscaping...
As in BIRDHOUSES!
Let's go back a bit...
Back when my Young-And-Cute-Handy-Dandy-Handyman was here with his crew putting on new siding, one of his worker's threw a cool square pillar in the dumpster. Well, it didn't stay in the dumpster long!
Hubby and I added vintage corbels and a 36 inch cross board on top, then put it up in the garden. We didn't have any really large birdhouses, so we put on two normal size ones. I didn't like this look and asked a local craftsman to build me a huge birdhouse to fit this board better. I gave him this picture from Country Living Magazine for reference of what I was wanting...
Well, I must say, he came though with flying colors and it was worth the one year wait! Here are the two similar ones that he made...for me to pick from, but I bought them both! First one...
And a close up...It certainly fit's this long board much better and looks great!
Here is the second one...We attached it to a tree stump on the back fence that is loaded with honeysuckle. Beautiful, don't you think?
On another note, I bought a kit from a garage sale and built it, then planted it...
Cute but not quality and the box fell apart within a month outside. So I kept the fencing and used it in this vignette along with our new huge birdhouse...
The round white feeder, in the foreground on the post, came from a garage sale for $5! Yep that was a good find!

Hi Terry, fabulous birdhouses and I would've bought both too! Like you, I love birdhouses and have several in my yard. I think I get that from my grandfather who built an entire birdhouse village for the trees in his yard and I always enjoyed them as a child.

fantastic birdhouses!!! would love to have you link up to this weeks garden party over here at Fishtail Cottage!!!! oxox, tracie
ReplyDeleteI love your birdhouses! They look wonderful on posts especially with the honeysuckle. I'd like to add some of those too. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to repurpose that nice pillar! The birdhouses turned out beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLove these and I think your local birds are quite lucky! :)
ReplyDeleteI want one! One of our neighbors added a big birdhouse to a tree that died in her yard and I think it's a perfect solution. You took it one step further and planted honeysuckle vine. Brilliant!
ReplyDeleteWe've got a tree that needs to be cut down and now I don't feel so sad about it. I'm going to have somebody build me a big birdhouse when the day comes. Thanks for sharing at Cozy Little House!
They look great! Thanks for sharing at Home Sweet Home!
