Dress Your Lampshade In Burlap Tutorial

I was shopping recently and saw a lampshade with a cute burlap ruffle and ribbon. I thought that I would recreate it on one of my lampshades and give you a tutorial...It's so easy and cute!
Finished Lampshade with Burlap ruffle and ribbon.
1) Burlap must go 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 times around lampshade. Pull string to fringe one long side.

2) Determine how wide you want the burlap ruffle and pull a string all the way out at that point. This will guide you when cutting.

3) Cut burlap at that 'pulled string' area. This will give you a long strip. Fringe this newly cut side to match the other side.

4) Find the center of the width and pull that string on both ends. Don't pull it out, but pull a bit on one end to ruffle. Pull the same string on the other end to ruffle. This could also be done on a sewing machine instead of pulling the string.

5) After ruffling, wrap the ruffled burlap around the shade and tie the long strings together in a knot. Trim the strings short so they won't show.
6) Choose a coordinating ribbon and wrap around the ruffle and tie in a bow.
This project is so fast and easy and no sewing involved. This is not permanent and won't harm the shade, so it can be removed when you tire of it or want to change the decor. Terry

  4. What a charming lamp shade and a great use for leftover burlap!

Love the fact that you can just gather the fabric by pulling one of the threads too!

  6. That is very clever and so pretty.

I wanted to respond to your comment on the deer head cushion that I made, but you don't have an email attached to your google account (it is no-reply.bloggger.com).

I used freezer paper and paint to make it. Easy.
