Another Painted Fabric Chair!

 I am so excited

 to share with you

 another one of my

 half painted fabric

 and half upholstered chair!

I bought this chair from a good friend of mine. She had painted the wood and caning white, but I repainted it to be less distressed than what she had. This is what it looked like at that point...

I used it in my Green Toile guest bedroom because the green matched the toile exactly...
However, I have changed this room with new fabric curtains, dust ruffle and accent pillows and used a different chair from another room and turned this room into what I call my MacKenzie Childs Inspired guest bedroom that you can see HERE.
I really loved the look of this chair but was not needing a green chair. I also didn't want to reupholster the tufting on the back. Could I? Yes! Did I? No!

Instead, I painted the tufted back just like I did with this chair HERE. It was a very popular post.
This chair is not too far off what I had done before. I found some fabric at Hobby Lobby that looks like black French writing on a creamy colored background. I fell in love. But it's not upholstery weight.

I went ahead and used this fabric knowing that it was going to be a rarely used chair in our master bedroom. I also wanted to give this chair more detail than what it had. Originally the seat was just pulled fabric. I chose to give it piping and look more like a true upholstered chair.

I made some piping out of left-over mini black and white check that I am so fond of. I also made a double welt piping for the chair back.
The back of this chair has an inset of the same green fabric. To get to this, I would have had to pull off the tufted front. Since I wasn't going to upholster the front, I chose to use spray adhesive and just glue the fabric to the back. I then used my double welted piping to frame it in. Worked like a charm.
I am very pleased with how different this chair looks in its new transformation...
And especially how it goes so well in our master bedroom since I had stole a chair for another room.

  14. What a fantastic idea. I have a chair I want to recover or paint but I was thinking it was an all or nothing type of project it never occurred to me to paint half. I also like your contrasting piping and I may do my chair like this. Thanks for sharing,

  17. Lovely job! That script-print fabric is amazing! I might try and use something similar on two chairs that are currently in my garage awaiting some attention! I am also completely in love with that rug in your master bedroom - where did you get it?

  18. Visiting from Refresh Style.... I have the same french style fabric on a chest I upholstered at the foot of my bed (my "postage stamp" is blue, however). I love your chair and would love to paint 2 chairs I have in my family room. I spent the better part of yesterday researching painting upholstery, and the last blog I read (after about 50!) said she would not do this technique on a "TV watching chair"- she had done it with an occasional chair that was not used often. We use ours every day and I wonder how comfortable it would be? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!
