The Re-Roofing of my Cupola

Remember seeing this beauty?

Well, two things happened.

1) After a couple of years with this plastic tinlook sheets that I used for roofing, began to fade and crack!
And 2) My birthday rolled around again. What that means is my Hubby does not give me gifts, he gives me himself for the day. I get to ask him to do whatever I want and he does it. So I asked him if we could re-roof the cupola! Trust me, it was an all day project!

I put a lot of thought into a solution for this problem. I loved the look of the fishscale siding that was put on our house last year...
So, I had pre-ordered it and had it ready and available to use! Who's organized?! But who knew fishscale siding had a hard learning curve? I had other mini projects for him that never got done!
We brought the cupola into the garage where it was closer to the saws and out of the sun for us to work. You can see just how large this is by being in the garage next to Hubby! Notice my window air conditioner in the hobby garage for my comfort in doing projects!!!
The wooden round ball finial had also rotted but I remembered that I had this tin finial out on a fence post and we retrieved it and it fit perfectly! I even liked the chippy paint on it!
I cleaned the four panes of glass that were still in the windows...
And we placed it back in its spot on concrete square stepping stones to help keep the wood from rotting. The missing glass panes allow for the wind to blow though and the bricks on the wood form base hold it down enough to not blow away. Bashful Betsy was placed back inside on her capitol and peace was restored in the kingdom!
I'd say, a great birthday gift!

  1. A handyman for a day is a wonderful birthday gift. Your husband did a beautiful job on the roof and I absolutely love the finial, just gorgeous!

  2. Your cupola is gorgeous, and the idea of 'time' as a gift is generous and valuable. Did he make you dinner then??
