Diamonds In The Rough~Treasures Week 2

This weeks garage sales for my Diamonds In the Rough! feature were not near as many nor near as good as last week. However, don't be sad...I do have something fun to show you!

First, here is all the booty...

A croquet set to replace our old one. This is fun to play when the family comes for a visit because it gets us all outside and any age can play together. Old books that at a quarter each, are great to decorate with, plus now that I have reclaimed our daughters old room as our exercise room, I need to fill the built-ins with more books.  An old child's rocker that will be fun to paint and sew a new seat and back for.

I also picked up some vintage linens, with one being very old and awesome. The large wooden tray will be perfect for a new paint job and I loved the scallops. Can you imagine pillow tops made with this sweet embroidered basket design, or a child's apron, or maybe you will just have to wait and see what I come up with. I certainly know how to create work for myself! I am one to never be bored, that's for sure!

See the rose teacup? This is what I have special just for you to see!  Just remember this cute teacup and in a moment, I will reveal what I did with it.
I thought that this old table scarf was just beautiful and the edges were more than awesome (It's long and folded in half in the picture). Have you ever seen a basket weave on a crocheted lace edge before? I haven't either!  It does have some stains and a hole in the body of the scarf, so I thought I might sew it into something else. My brain is still creating on this one.
Okay, bet you can't stand the suspense any longer! Back to the teacup...but before that, remember the teapot from last week?
Remember I drilled a hole in the top lid and in the bottom and made it into a lamp? You can see that post HERE. NOTE: When using the drill bit mentioned in the previous post about this lamp, it will work better and with less time and effort if you put water on it. The teacup held just a bit of water in the middle bottom of the cup to drill. I put the lid submerged in water, in an old butter bowl. The water keeps the bit cool and the diamond cutters from clogging. My young and cute, handy dandy handyman was here when I was drilling for the lamp and he said, "why don't you put water on it?" Wow, it worked so much better.
Well, if you know me, you know that I love whimsy and even though this sweet lamp was not the norm, I thought it needed a bit more whimsy than it had. So, I drilled a hole in the bottom of the teacup and just slid it down on the finial on the top of the lampshade.
There, now it's complete, sweet and whimsical all wrapped up in one!

  1. What fantastic finds!! The crochet work on that table scarf is amazing !!
And I am totally in love with what you did to create that darling tea pot lamp! Love the fact that you used a tea cup for a finial! I have to get me one of those bits that i can use for china!!

And the croquet set brings back so many memories of playing the game at my parent's home. They had a large yard and it would always be set up for croquet!! Unfortunately now my yard is very small. Thanks for the memories of a wonderful time growing up!

    Hugs,
    Debbie

  3. I found a dresser scarf with the very same trim, except it had a tassel on it. I removed the crocheted trim from the old piece of fabric, made a new tablerunner the exact width as the trim. After I sewed the trim on each end, I machine embroided teapots on the new piece. It turned out very pretty. Will be glad to send pic if you email me.

    Your teapot lamp is beautiful!!!
