Week 12 ~ Diamonds In The Rough!

Diamonds In The Rough! is my weekly feature, where I show you the treasures that I find from garage sales, thrift stores and antique stores.

Here goes...

I know what you are thinking..."What is she gonna do with that?". I just thought it was cool. It's very large and made of some kind of plastic foam. It will be mounted on the house...I think. It was only $4 so what the heck!
This $1 handled frame will become a beautiful French tray next week!

A 25¢ oil can that will be put in my mall booth.
A brand new table with glass, $2. Remember when I made the top of one into a clock? (below) This time I will keep this and use it to elevate a Christmas Tree.
Table top made into a faux clock.

Two more feed sacks from the antique mall.
A frame to transform someday soon.
A silver butter bowl with lid, 40¢

Same dish...just cleaned my new way...see below.
Remember my post on a new EASY way to clean silver? You can see it HERE. Basically you just pour in hot water and 4 tablespoons of this product...

for every gallon of hot water in a sink lined with aluminum foil. Then set your sterling silver in the water on the foil and a chemical reaction happens. Within about 5 minutes or so, you have a clean silver product without the hard work.
So after cleaning this, I also got a heavy tray at a garage sale and cleaned it too.
$1 heavy silver tray

Oh this is a keeper now that it is all clean.

Out with the bigger tray and in with the better quality one!
And lastly...Look what I found for $10! See the shoe box? It is full of crystals.
So this needs rewired, which I can do, but also this could be an opportunity for greater things like my version of this...

  2. Really enjoyed seeing what you are collecting. The silver cleaning tip is amazing. Thanks for sharing!

  3. Great finds...and I can't wait to try your tip on cleaning silver (must have missed that post!!) I am sure you will create a greater version of that chandelier - looking forward to it! Thanks for all of your kind comments!

  4. Wow for sure. You found a ton of great treasures. Love them all. Hugs, Marty

  5. Love all your finds. My favorite is the chandelier! I cannot believe how clean the silver is using that method. I've got to try it.

  6. Oh my gosh that silver tray is unbelievable. What a great way to clean silver...which we all agree is one of the worst jobs ever! I have some candlesticks I have not used for a long time because they are just too darn hard to clean. I'm going to try this out...I'm a new follower. Thanks for sharing!

  7. I was looking around your blog. Yo ur home is stunning. I love the way you hung your curtians in the living room...where the studded leather chairs are. Thanks for visiting Midwest Cottage today!

  8. Great pieces, Terry! That silver tray turned out beautifully and I love it on your countertop. That frame tray looks like it is ready to be beautified ~ I'm sure it will look wonderful as a French tray!

  9. Oh, you're so lucky! You sure had good, happy hunting time!! Incredible finds, such bargains, congrats! Happy Father's Day. Lots of hugs! FABBY

  10. Wow, you got great deals! I love them all. I bought a chandelier quite similar on Fri. I'm going to hang it from my pergola. Mine came from an antique shop. Not quite the deal you got, ($28). Not too bad though. Hopped over from a craft blog. Thanks for the silver tip. I will use it fa-sure!

  11. Wow! I want to shop where you shop!! What unbelievable finds! Thanks for the tip on cleaning silver! I just bought a bunch of old silver teaspoons to use at my teas so I'm going to give this a try! Can't wait to see what you do with the chandelier!

  12. Great finds -- and that is the easiest way to clean silver!!! I use one of the large aluminum pans for catering -- you can reuse or just throw away! Cass from That Old House put me onto that instead of using aluminum foil!

  13. Oh me oh my! What a wonderful post! I can't believe what you did with that $1 silver tray! Seriously, that is STUNNING. Thank so much for posting your silver cleaning tip.

New follower from Creative Bloggers Party & Hop. Would very much appreciate it if you would follow back.

    Have a lovely day

  14. Love your finds, looks like what I would have bought.

  15. some great finds there! stopping by from a beach cottage.

  16. Great for you! I love the little silver butter dish. Perfect.

  17. I love a good deal! I cannot wait to try the silver cleaning idea! Thank you for tip!

  18. I will be running out to the grocery store to pick up that soap powder to clean my silver today. You absolutely rock. Your photos are wonderful, plus you are a genius. :-)

  19. Love the chandelier!!!! Thanks so much for sharing this at my party.

  20. I might mention that the chemical reaction created by the Arm and Hammer and the aluminum foil is extremely hard on your skin! Just speaking from experience, you might want to wear rubber gloves.

  21. Pay dirt, girl! What a great find.

  22. I have two of those arched shutter thingies. We had new siding put on our house, and they were there. I told the siding guys not to throw them out- that I wanted them. Now, they're in my basement awaiting a new decor venue. I saw one in the Pottery Barn catalog (not for sale, just for staging) and it looked cool. I'm sure my hubby will wonder why it's in the house as a decor element. Oh, well. ;)
    Fondly, Tami

  23. Nice! I need to clean a silver tray, but my sink isn't big enough. Any suggestions to accommodate it? Is the aluminum foil necessary? Could I do it in my tub?

It makes me smile to hear from you!
